It seems to me that the blue dot is not obviously a childs play tool nor is the cone prominent enough to support the title the photo has been graced with. I'm almost at a loss to suggest ways to give those items the prominence they need to support the title. You might crop heavily from top and some from the bottom so that just a tiny bit of land is visible above the river. Then crop in from both sides so that left right visual weightings are balanced and the little sand bar is emphasized and the river becomes background.
Good luck, this photo is a difficult post processing problem to get the composition that tells the story.

I took this a long time ago - when I was younger and more stable. I think it was with my EOS-3, but it might have been my Elan 7. It was shot on Kodak 100, and I scanned it yesterday.

Basically, I've done nothing with it in either LR or ACR.

I'm doing a series on desert rivers, and I'm thinking to add this one to that series.

Any suggestions on how to improve would be welcomed.

Kathy, I am surprised at the detail in a DDL. I need to scan a couple of my photos and see if I get similar detail. I love the photo.

I have a really good scanner. And this film scans beautifully. Try it! I have always found that my film images actually are quite good when scanned. And thanks, Greg!
