AzPicLady Loc: Behind the camera!

I took this a long time ago - when I was younger and more stable. I think it was with my EOS-3, but it might have been my Elan 7. It was shot on Kodak 100, and I scanned it yesterday.

Basically, I've done nothing with it in either LR or ACR.

I'm doing a series on desert rivers, and I'm thinking to add this one to that series.

Any suggestions on how to improve would be welcomed.

Crop out the sky and do a crop on the left so that the sand castles are on the left 1/3rd of the photo. Lighten the mid-tones a little..........or try several things, whatever you do to lighten mid-maybe dark tones a bit. Saturation looks good. And, whatever you like is the most important thing in your photos!

Thanks, Wanda. I've lightened the mid-, dark-tones some. But I realized when I uploaded it, they still looked a bit dark. In LR they looked fine! I'l probably still end up darker than some would like, just because that's what I do. I'm frequently accused of getting this too dark.

I wonder why you think the sky should be totally dismissed. I grant it's not a wonderful sky, but I'd like to hear your reasons for abandoning it.

The surroundings of a river are central to the 'personality' of the river, so I would advise against cropping. The little stone pile in the foreground bespeaks human enjoyment here.

Thank you. That's exactly how I felt about it when I took the shot. I appreciate your comment.

I like the viewpoint, composition and current framing - I wouldn’t crop. The sand piles and the blue plastic something tell us people are about. It depends what you have in the darker areas but they need bringing out a bit, as you seem to know, but if there’s nothing there you will just have to live with it, it’s still worthy of inclusion in your series.

Thanks, Magnetoman. I really appreciate your comment. The sand castle and toy were actually there when I arrived. But to me it said that children had been playing there. There is detail in the dark areas. Not a lot, but some.

Nice photo but in keeping with the title, a child at play is needed.

Thanks, photogeneralist. I thought the sand castle and the plastic toy was enough to suggest a child. Do you not think so?
