I took this one today and thought it might make a decent B&W conversion. I haven't done any landscapes in B&W so I need feedback. Does it have any interest?

Once I downloaded it, it had great interest. The area over the road looks cluttered in the smaller image, but when you view the download, it's clear and interesting. As long as you have good, strong whites and good, strong blacks you've got a winner. You have both. Nice shot.

I like it. Before I say what I think about, to be fair, I am a fan of deep blacks in mono. Hence I would lower the highlights a bit and then if needed lower the overall exposure a tad. But, that’s just me. It’s a good shot and it’s yours to do with as you wish. Nice effort.

I was afraid it might have just been a muddy mess. I’m glad you downloaded it for maximum effect.

Hmmm..... I may play around a bit more but your suggestion seems like it would make the whites too dark for my liking.

The limbs and clouds tend to kill each other. For a B/W I think a plain sky would have worked a little better. Theres a lot to like in the bottom half.

For my personal tastes it's a bit busy for b&w, with so many small details in similar tones. I think the composition is really nice. I always enjoy seeing folks experiment and expand their viewpoints and interest. Thanks for the inspiration, Walt!

I mess around with black and white from time to time, and I think the work is just right, but one must see the download to appreciate it. Nice one.

I'll carry a chainsaw with me the next time. I did wonder about that though.

I wondered about it being too busy. I'll keep it in mind.

I think the conversion came out fine. However, even after viewing the download, for me at least, it is just too busy. I long for a strong subject and I find that there is just too much going on in this image.

Just my opinion, and I seem to be in the minority, so what do I know. :-)

Walt, my reaction when I first saw it was to dismiss it as too much of a clutter. I downloaded it, it became very much better, then I moved it over to a large monitor, 40'' to my amazement it fairly bloomed. The main thing it needs is to be is sized very large. With that it is first rate. Thanks RBorud

Your B&W is very nice. I don't find it cluttered or too busy. I'm drawn into it.

I like the details, the gnarly branches and grass by the path.
