You misread, it's heading for Vancouver in Washington state, (and not Vancouver BC) just across the state line from Portland Oregon...

I stand corrected.
One of the problems with being used to speed reader skimming stuff. (Old habit from college and 34 years of classroom teaching, research for lesson plans etc.)
When I hit "Vancouver" my mind filled in BC and I skimmed on. When I looked at the places it had been I did look up how many cities named Vancouver there are that it could go to- only 2 in the world. And I did not look back at your original post to see it was the one in Washington. If I hadn't been doing about three things at once it would have dawned on me that a package to Vancouver, BC would have gone direct from UK to Canada.

I still think they should give you the package's frequent flyer miles. A few days in the Med. Bahamas or Caribbean would be nice for you this time of year.

Lol, usually USPS is pretty good and at least the parcel is still followable...

Nah! Only 4 - as far as I know Antarctica has no postal facilities.

Let's see, UK Postal Service to United States Postal Service and it has to get to the Canadian Postal Service for delivery. Where is the main connection between USPS and CPS?
If they would just give you Frequent Flyer Miles for your package you should be able to get a ticket for a nice vacation to somewhere warmer than the UK in winter.

I believe Port Lockroy in Antarctica is a postal facility, albeit open only part of the year. Keep checking, it might go there.

Even though I understand that the USPS handles millions of letters/packages daily, and sometimes things can get misplaced, lost, or delayed. But, I’ve had more than my share of items traveling across the country, or getting lost.
My most recent package, took over 3 weeks to get to me. This package came from a town about 15 miles from me!
It went to the 2 local sorting centers, then the main sorting center, back to a local center, back to the main center, then Texas, and Portland Oregon!
Trying to get a hold of the UPSP and find out what’s going on is a total waste of time

Just over two weeks back I posted a lens to my friend in Vancouver, Washington.
Within 24 hours it had reached London Heathrow for transit to the USA.
Another 24 hours it was safely in LA. Where it sat for a week. Then started moving again and a few days later reached Portland Oregon, just over the bay from Vancouver. Next port of call was Philadelphia? Err? Today it's now in San Francisco. Should I expect it to be back in the UK soon?

Portland, Oregon is not just over any by from Vancouver. Thought you would like to know.

Otherwise they just want to make sure you lens is well traveled.

One thing to be careful of is not to cover the address with packing tape. The local PO told me the reason my package had had such a long travel was the labels are read by a scanning device and the reflection off the packing tape makes it hard to read. Just tape all around the address and you will be OK.

I am not surprised. The post office can be the best in the world and it can be the worst in the world and you never know which world your package is going into
Good luck and hound them as much as possible

It wasn't a life or death item.

You do know O'Bannon's Law? He said Murphy was conservative.

Good advice and for the record I did, thinking it would be no different to putting the address in one of those sticky address bags?

I like O'Toole's commentary "Murphy is an optimist!"

My wife shipped a grandmother (yes grandmother, smaller than the grandfather type) from the family home in the UK to Melbourne Australia. It arrived in Melbourne only to be sent back to the UK. It eventually made it's way back to her in Melbourne after a long time.

Look on the bright side, it is probably getting Frequent Flyer miles.
Who is the carrier?
