Not 10K ISO - I can't think of an instance where I'd even want to shoot in light that makes that necessary.

Sometimes the light just doesn't allow lower ISO unless you are willing to under expose and hope to bring it up in PP. In my experience higher ISO to begin with works better than under exposure with low ISO.

Here is one. New 6D, only the second time I used it. No flash on camera, no Canon compatible flash. Only light was the Christmas tree and light from the kitchen 15 feet behind me reflcted off light tan walls and white ceiling.
ISO 12800

very well done! i will have to experiment with higher iso on my camera and see...this type situation is often a fail for me. recently the same situation had color changing lights and vibrant yellow walls, i got a few ok shots but was pretty disappointed. so low light practice it is! thanks for sharing

When it came out the 6D actually outdid the 5DIII in low light by a hair. The 5DIV outdoes the 6D by a bit.

What is the point of in camera noise reduction when a much lower ISO and shutter speed is all that is needed.

If the light is low and the subject is moving, you might have no choice but high ISO.

I have the 5d3. My husband bought it for me because of my love of photography but I spent a year picking it up and feeling guilty over how much it cost before I could let go and really enjoy it.

Shoot some night time high school sports where high shutter speed is needed. I have had to shoot 8 to 10,000 often.

You are making the same mistake that a lot of people do now days. They want a camera that will give them perfect photos at any time day or night without learning anything about photography! Do you think that photographers like Pete Turner (http://peteturner.com/Africa/index.html) who used nothing but film in the 50's, 60's 70's etc. used 10,000 ASA film? Of course not! Every single photographer who used film learned photography first. I am not surprise anymore, young people now day believe the advertising from manufactures and have learned nothing from history, photographic history.
Continue to be ignorant and keep spending your money in other cameras that “take better pictures”.

So, I have been using this for some time now and really do like the camera. I had expected it to do better in low light/high ISO however. Anyone else have one and how high of an ISO do you feel you can go before the noise is too bad? I have attached a few bird photos I took the other day with the new Canon 100-400 mm lens.
I'm going to Africa this fall and I'm afraid I will be disappointed in the evening low light photos due to not being able to use a higher ISO. I'm afraid to do much of anything over 10,000 if even that.
Any thoughts or suggestions on this camera etc. are quite welcome. If I had things to do over when I started I would have gone Nikon. Seems the Nikon D850 does quite well in low light, but I have way too much Canon stuff and lenses!
So, I have been using this for some time now and r... (show quote)
