As noted, the switch needs to be locked at F22 unless you are in manual mode. Then the aperture can be controlled by the aperture ring.

More interesting and information to seek out.
Are you referring to the "tiny" tab that is above the 3.5 mark on the lens?
Thanks to both of you for the reminder!!!

That's the one! Set it to F22, lock it down, mount it on the D7000 and set to AF, aperture control with main command or sub command dial (depending on how you have it setup) and give it a go....it might surprise you! If you still want to sell it, at least you can say it works! Good luck and enjoy!

I have a AF Nikkor (Nikon) lens. 2.8 - 85mm, 1:3.5 - 4.5, Macro lens. Lens filter is set for a 62mm.
This is a manual lens, I do not know what the AF stands for.
The lens in not auto on my D3200 nor my D7000.
The AF is Auto Focus. It does not have a built-in focus motor. That designation would be AF-S and that lens would work with your camera. The AF lens will only work with a camera with focus motor built into the body.

Hope it turns out well for you. The AF lenses I have are sharper than my set of AF-S in same distance range, shooting a test subject. No VR, but I've not found that an impediment, although you would probably need tripod or beanbag for low light. I good light they do very well. Let us know (I'm curious anyway) how it goes.
I'm not sure if that locks the lens to prevent creeping or locks the aperture - you'll have to determine that with a quick test.
It locks the aperture....

To start off, I wish to THANK every member that offered information about the lens and setting it up to in fact work on the D7000! Thank you all.
To begin, once the lens was on the D7000, I attempted to take a photo. Would not let me. I "fiddled" with some of the adjustments and still nothing. For an unknown reason I activated Live View. What the heck, attempted to take a shot, it worked. With and without a flash. I was not pleased with the focus and was trying to better it. Looked at the suggestions more, still nothing I could get to work. Drug out the Manual, paid attention to the areas of the camera and what they were designed for. Noted the AF Lock switch. read what and why, so I moved the lever to the "dot". Took a shot and this too worked. Switched the lever to the "L" position to save the AF view, could not take a shot. Put lever back down to the "dot" and it worked.
One of the members told me about the "small tab" and where its location was supposed to be. Moved the tab to lock it in the position suggested and I was able to take shots! That was the key, the small tab being locked in he correct position. I never would have thought about this at all!!!
So, I am able to say that the ens will work on the D7000, but one has to work at it somewhat.
Bottom line, lens is still for sale now that I can say it is a AF lens after all.
Thanks again for all the responses, we got it working and the AF motor is working quite well.

Locking that tab at F22 gives you full range of f-stops. Glad you got to see it in action. It just requires a diff. setup routine, but once you know how, its a no hiccup lens change. Good luck with the sale.
