Hmm this 1 is close to home , nice shot . My family has lived in and around Rochford for well over a 100 years and my Grandfather was the last care taker for the mine back in the 30's . There were fatality's at the mine as with most mines but the last 1 was in the 60's when some airmen from Ellsworth decided to investigate the shaft , unfortunately they trespassed and the rope they used was to short and 1 plunged to his death . There is still gold ore on the property but tends to be in high grade pockets which many mining ventures have tried to connect to make it a going concern but alas the bigger company's need to make millions to make it worth while . Just a side note there is local opposition to the current search ( not in my backyard attitude ) but nobody wants to live in a tepee . By this I mean your everyday lives depend on mining , there is gold in your computer , phones , camera's , Tv's , not to mention the foundations , nails , and the wiring of your homes are mining products and lets not forget the metal in all vehicle's that give us transportation , just something to think about .
