Computer File size Question.

It should, but, doesn't mean he does... if only 32bit, he's got a bunch of RAM he's not using. I've encountered many instances with 32bit and even 16GB RAM... just doesn't work. I think he said he had 32GB RAM.
To reiterate, what OS version and 32bit or 64bit?

I can't imagine a Lenovo computer with an I7 and 32 gb ram being anything but Win 10 and 64 bit. That would just be absurd.

You would think so... but, just need to confirm. I've seen 'sillier' configurations.
I'm running 64bit with an i7 and M.2 drives and a 2080Ti graphics card and pictures come up in a 'blink'.

It sounds like some here have been watching too many hollywood movies.
The way jPEG is encoded, it makes getting lower resolution information fairly easy so some viewers show that first, then it dives into to the more computationally intense descrete inverse fourier transforms and other decoding to pull out the details. Nothing all that interesting, it's just giving you something rough to look at while it's fully decoding.

Hi, Is it normal for your computer when opening a large jpeg file @ 14.4 meg. to take a few seconds for the pic to " Clear up "? At first the pic looks grainy or out of focus but then after a few seconds clears up. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this. My computer is a Lenovo desktop, I7 8th gen processor, 32 Gig of ram, 512 gig SSD drive and a 1 Terabyte drive. I also have 2 - 4 gig. usb3.0 backup drives on it. It doesn't really matter which drive I'm working off of does the same thing. I shooting with a Canon 5Dm4 with various lens on it. I think that covers everything, if I left anything out just ask.
As always, Thanks in Advance!

I've always attributed this to the graphics card taking time to render the image.

That would be my first thought as well.

If running Win 10, search 'Computer' and this will allow you to ask the 32bit or 64bit question.
If running some other Windows, click the 'Start' button and right click the 'Computer' and click on 'Properties' This will tell you the Version and if 32bit or 64bit.
Let us know what you find.

The GT 730 is not a top performing card. See this chart:
https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/common_gpus.htmlIt is way down near the bottom. You may want to upgrade your video.

Ignore my last post... you found the info... your system can easily accommodate 32GB RAM... your 2GB 730 card could be a bit of a bottleneck. Your system looks good. M.2 can be PCIe or SATA, the former being faster. Your files should open as quick as most computers would.

That might do it. I have a Radeon R9 380. Even when I click for 1:1 it's almost instantaneous on a RAW.
Very common. Lots of possible causes but just annoying more than anything.
Great summary... list could include the 2080Ti which would be maybe 30% faster.
Some computers have RAM and video cards soldered in; it may cause problems for updating.
