Trump year 1 and 2 had full support from the Republican-controlled senate and congress. It appears obvious that the motivation is to have a tool to control the Congress and to consume time that should be spent investigating the Trump / Russia connection. The Democrats want to progress with the modernization of our country and repair of the infrastructure both sides should want that.
A crisis requires quick action, as in infection needs a quick cure. The wall would take years to complete thus the wall is not a cure for the crisis. If a national emergency is declared the powers of the president can include martial law and the rounding up of dissonant reporters... perhaps even a quick attack of Iran... this is not a man [Trump and his maffiso] to be trusted.
