At least I think this is a painted lady butterfly. Correct me if I am wrong.
ISO 1000 - 105mm - f/11 - 1/250 sec.

There's something a little funky going on with the wing closest to the flower (the part that contains a lot of white). Aggressive sharpening perhaps? The contrast of the flower with deep green background is striking.

Hi Linda. Not quite sure what you are referring to. Would it be possible to illustrate in some way? You are welcome to edit and repost if you wish.

Have no idea of what the ID of the butterfly is, but that is one excellent capture.

Limited, on Chromebook but the area within the triangle. Maybe what I'm seeing is just the texture of the underwing itself. It seemed like it should have been smoother. But then I guess I haven't examined the undersides of butterflies very often

Thanks KpMac. I'm pretty sure about it being a painted lady, but I am no entomologist.

I think what you are talking about is indeed the texture of the scales themselves. There is a major flaw in the photo though. See if you can find why this image could not pass muster in a competition.

Is it a composite?
