Long and Lonely Road Revisited

I posted this picture last summer before there was a landscape section. I redid PP with Nik and more crop. I removed a bunch of reflector posts, a mailbox and a no trespassing sign. I didn't like the previous version, because I sharpened it too much. The original was photographed with a D3400 and the 18-55 mm kit lens at 42 mm.

The subject matter seems OK to me but I'm not so sure about the slightly pink tint. Perhaps you could try choosing a tint a bit further from red and more towards mid-orange, or better still use split toning to create a bit of colour contrast between the highlights and the shadows.

The pink tint seems less evident in the download.

Nice composition; not too sure about the toning.

Marianne, as you know from your intro topic in September, everyone has their own vision and preferences, and opinions are just viewers' reactions.

It appears to be inevitable that we're going to talk about the processing I find the vignette-like darkness at top of sky a bit oppressive, pushing down on me. Re the composition, I'm curious if you tried a viewpoint a little more to the left? The dirt shoulder of the road is fairly dominant in this view, though risking being flattened by speeding vehicles might not have been preferable.

Your previously posted version here is a little wider, which I enjoyed for the spaciousness. I don't get a lot of "oversharpened" feel, mostly just some blown clouds which you've since adjusted.

Post-processing is very much a personal journey, and I hope you continue to explore and enjoy yours!

On the to the left comment. I can see where that might have provided a more appealing leading line into the picture. Especially since it looks like the road is going to swerve to the left again shortly.

You recovered a great deal in the clouds from the first posting. I think the addition of the vignette is too much.

Thank you Linda. I would have liked to have been in the middle of the road. It probably wouldn't have been real safe. The rancher's kids drive like maniacs, as evidenced on the trip up that road. 3 vehicles with parts sheered off along the way. That is why there were so many reflectors I had to remove. They hope to keep the cars and trucks between the ditches. The reason for the pink tinge is I used analog efex and like that particular classic camera and film tint.

In fact, the road does swerve sharply right just where the fence disappears. Thanks, for the idea though.
