Is there a way to keep a Telephoto Lens which doesn’t have a Lock From extending out when it’s being carried? Maybe a trick or a band of some kind I get tired of holding it closed.
Thanks I hope this makes since
Gary D.

Carry it in a large soft case - with the body attached ....

Imagemeister; Excellent post, was thinking the same thing. Used a lens band (Tm) when they first came out on our Nikon 18-200 VR but didn't care to keep roll it back and forth on the barrel. The lens band (Tm) doesn't always work as well as one believes it should, even though it beats anything the post office has (and isn't gummy). This is a classic lens afflicted with huge creep issues. It became so I became obessessed with carting the rig upside-down, not comfortable. We had a spare set of $14 plush-lined lens bags from Amz when they were on sale for $6, and tethered the drawstring to the camera strap, so that the bag/case slips off the lens for shooting, then slips back onto the lens and holds it in place. Wife was instrumental in the process. sv

Strap the case to your body - holster style.

Canon L zooms don’t have that problem. They work differently.

Very funny!

24-105L are notorious for "zoom creep". 24-70L do it too!

The 70-200s are internal zooming, so they don't do it.

But the 100-400s will, if you don't use the zoom lock/tensioner.

I don't have or know about the 70-300L or 28-300L, but wouldn't be surprised to see them have zoom creep too.

One solution:

Another possibility is to go to the produce department of your local grocery store and ask the clerk for a few of the wide rubber bands they use on asparagus and similar. Those work the same way. And are free.

I would try a velcro strip cut to the length you
need in encompass the lens barrel. I'd get a
wide strip. that would be easier to take off and
on than a rubber band.

You wrote, "I would try ........... ".

If I understand English, that means you
haven't actually done it and do not know
anyone who had done it. Cuz otherwise
you'd know better.
