Is there a way to keep a Telephoto Lens which doesn’t have a Lock From extending out when it’s being carried? Maybe a trick or a band of some kind I get tired of holding it closed.
Thanks I hope this makes since
Gary D.

Some lens have a lock and others allow you to tighten the tension enough to prevent this. Check you lens manual for these features. It might help if you describe the lens involved.

I bought an inexpensive Tamron lens years ago and returned it for that reason. What lens is this?

A large rubber band (silicone bands last longer) applied to the barrel, and in contact with the zoom ring, will solve the problem for a few cents.

Yep. I use a rubber band on my telephoto. Looks funny - works great.

Maybe you should read the OP.

FWIW the solution is in the 2nd reply.

I put a Lens Band on my Nikkor 18-200 DX version 1. It does the job.

If it really bothers you check with your post office. They have these SUPER RUBBER BANDS. They use them to bundle your held mail. Anyway, they will go around your lens and body without a problem.
You can also use super glue, but it's a band aid solution that you will only have to use once, but then again your lens will never extend again will it, problem solved.

I would try a velcro strip cut to the length you need in encompass the lens barrel. I'd get a wide strip. that would be easier to take off and on than a rubber band.

yes i did that on a tamron 28/ 300 that had a erection problem .a rubber band will give some friction to the zoom ring .since i am a bicycle rider , made one with a inner tube , work great .

Canon L zooms don’t have that problem. They work differently.

Years ago I had an 18-200MM from Nikon. That always happened. I gave the D90 and that lens to my grandson. I solved my problem.

Perfect twice. I checked B&H, and they have the Lens Band for $4.99, with many colors to choose from. I'll include in my next $49+ order.
