Experience at the big blue store

Had an interesting experience yesterday. Trying to move one of my tv sets, I accidently broke the HDMI cable. I did a quick check on Amazon and saw that they had a good selection of them for around $10-20. I didn't want to wait three days so I went over to the local big blue store (don't want to give out names) to pick one up. I was directed to the correct aisle and was surprised to see the least expensive one was about $40, in fancy packaging, and the prices went way up from there. I expressed my surprise to the clerk at how much more expensive theirs were compared to Amazon and he mumbled something about how they stock only the thin wire type. After I told him that I would go back home and order one and started to walk away, he did the "Oh by the way" thing and showed me one for about $10 in a plain plastic bag several yards away from the more expensive ones. I went ahead and purchased it and it works perfectly. And...it was a thin wire type to boot.

I’ve had a similar experience with them. I was after a neck strap and their website said they had the one I wanted in stock nearby. But when I went there all they had on display were more expensive versions of the brand I wanted. When I asked an employee why their advertised price was more than their website he said this is what we have. I responded that their web page said they had in stock exactly what I want. Guy goes to the stockroom and came back with what I wanted. Just like bait and switch on a car lot. I try to avoid them.

Went to that store 11 times and only found what I needed twice. They did not even carry lemonade in the wintertime because it was seasonal item.

The size of the wire only becomes important when the length exceeds recommendations. For example a HDMI cord at 3 to 6 feet is no issue, however if you were to say want to run that cord to the back room of the house you would want the lowest loss cable you could find. Pretty much true on any wire size for any purpose.

Ditto in our area. Unless I can find what I want in the store without assistance, because you can't ever find someone unless it's the cell phone dept., I order on-line.

Best to be careful around the Big Blue Store.
Like many retailers they arrange stuff to push what they want to sell the most of. Except a few displays put up to attract traffic.

OMG, another bitch fest about Best Buy?! You sure did out smart that band of thieves. The nerve of a retail store to try and hide product from the consumer. I'm sure they were so unhappy you bought the cheaper item from their secret hidden stock.

You do realize their inventory is online and you just needed to go to the web site, look up what you wanted and go pick it up. It's not like they are actually hiding anything or purposely making it next to impossible to buy cheaper things in their stores. Or are they...!!??

Wow, I hit a nerve eh? The point I was trying to make is that the clerk did not tell me about the $10 one right away and that he literally did not mention it until I told him I was going home to order one and had turned around and was walking away. He should have told me about it right away. I did go ahead and purchase theirs and have no regrets.

I go to big box stores for the personal service. If I have to go to the trouble to look it up on their website, I'll just order from Amazon.

The whole “thin wire” or “thick wire” thing is a load of it - doesn’t matter except for cosmetics.

I'm not surprised, but the supple thin one is a lot easier to work with than the stiff thick ones I have on the other sets.

A few years ago they got caught in Ct running 2 different web sites. They are suppose to match the web site price if it is lower, on sale on line, etc. one local shopper finds an item online on their web site he wants, goes to the big blue store just down the street and it cost more. He tells them and they tell him he must be mistaken. The big blue guy signs on, looks up the item and it’s the s@me price as the store. The guy buys the item but when he goes home he goes online again and it’s a lower price. He gets really mad and complains to Dept Consumer Protection and the state starts an investigation. Sure as heck they were cheating customers. I don’t know it this was happening at the store level or if it was more wide spread. I don’t remember the amount but the fine was pretty significant

You are all lucky if the salesperson even know where it is. I have to laugh at the blue and orange store's salespeople rarely know where something is when you ask them

I went to the big blue store, looking for a CAT5 (or CAT6) Crossover cable (It's a network cable to directly connect 2 computers to each other). I couldn't find anyone in the store, including the Geekless Squad, who had ever even heard of a crossover cable. I came back home and made one myself since I had plenty of the ethernet connectors.

It so happens I needed a HDMI cable yesterday (Jan 9, 2018). Went to a local WalMart and bought a HDMI cable, 6 foot in length, for $6.98, plus tax. The store had a plethora of HDMI cables of varying lengths and prices.
