They are much more the torture chamber than anything else. The constant noise from the blower, the dripping conduits, the stench of mildew, the slick floor in the wet holes, the lack of space to move around in most of them. Plus the big benefit of sitting on a bucket and splicing for hours on end. My back will never recover. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the occasional object that would come zinging in from a passing car or unruly idiot.
But then again, it was better than hanging by your hooks on a pole doing the same job.
