Phone imaging/effects/editing apps are imho mainly just eye candy that leads to limited/false creativity. My phone has a built in professional mode which is next to useless as they are mainly electronic mumbojumbo that does not change aperture or focal length. Except for timer and shutter speed, It is better to have photoshop manipulate what it can.
I've already stated that details can be found in the files metadata, hence what matters more is the technique and technical know-how of the user. Such knowledge is precious so it is a prerogative to share them or not so i encourage those who want to repeat someone else work to experiment and learn the full capability of their tools. I also explained what i did in photoshop so whats with the accusation?
Phone imaging/effects/editing apps are imho mainly... (show quote)

Lighten up man. Didn't you see the "smiley?" A lot of people don't know anything about what's available for their phone and I have no way of knowing who does and doesn't and since questions here typically don't get a response, I just toss stuff out there and those who desire can use something I might say if they so desire, or not. Whether those apps do the same thing that the firmware does for a dslr or not is immaterial IMHO but they do allow a form of electronic control over phone cameras, or it does mine, at least - your mileage may vary, but in any event, it wasn't my intention to seriously accuse you of anything. S'cuse me if it seemed like it.

Its sad that this thread is becoming an ego war. The truth is everyone has a valid point. A person is limited by the capacity of his tools. IE not every rocket can go to the moon. The persons skill is also of utmost importance. Given the same vehicle, i doubt to beat Micheal Schumacher in a race. Simply put, better tools will be able to take better images "IF" the user knows how (or get lucky).

Skill takes time and practice. Some may be a natural and learns faster while some are too full of aplomb that they are unhealthy to themselves and to those they encounter.
Time they say is gold, hence real skill is precious. That said, let us not be condescending to those who wanted to keep their knowledge or to those who wanted something in return.
It is OK to ask, but not to demand.

As for me, IF i have the time, I do not mind sharing whatever i can.
I do not claim to be always right or know everything as i'm still learning too even though i have been in this dance for a very long time.

I've been shooting since i can remember. It just happened during events, people tend not to mind children lugging a camera squeezing between legs trying to get a better view.

It is a wonderful journey if we keep the enthusiasm and an open eye. There is joy in sharing ones own perspective and bliss in retrospect. It is a road of many discoveries so do not be discouraged of dead end and limited guides. Step to the light, capture the moments, learn your tools and grow.

I tried to propose the same in a new main forum topic yesterday, but I didn't make it clear enough what I was suggesting

Conversation between viewer and photographer can lead to much learning, teaching, inspiration.

And some of this can be done in a PM....

But then people would miss out on the opinions and supporting information.

This is true, but it is an option for the ones who feel more comfortable in private....

Of course equipment matters. The point was that buying more expensive equipment will not necessarily give you great photos. My wife takes great photos with her cell phone. Seeing the photo and understanding how to get the result you want is way more important than having expensive equipment. Just my opinion.

Exactly. Like I said at the beginning, it’s not just about the sharpness.
