Just a thought, maybe it was a French Navy warship that they scuttled so it wouldn't fall into German hands who would use it to attack convoys crossing the Atlantic.
Or not. Like I said, just a thought.
Hi, Ed! Thanks for the thought, but I think this was some kind of sailing vessel, not a "warship".
However, I was in the Army Air Force, so what do I know about ships?

That first shot is amazing - I'd hate to fall into that water!

TILT !!!
I photographed this mystery ship in the French harbor of Nice in December, 1946, while on furlough from my post in Occupied Germany. I was alone at the time and don't speak French, so I have no idea what happened there, but the tilted masts seem to still be attached to the deck, and the hull seems to be floating on the water. So I'm appealing to our resident shipbuilder, RR, for an estimate of what he thinks happened here. I suppose it could have been damaged during the Liberation of southern France in 1944.

Interesting image Richard.
Went out with the old beasty today, and glad I did. I saw that our Eagles returned yesterday, but no such luck today. However, I did manage to catch a new bird that I've never seen before in this part of the woods. In the second photo, I evidently took pictures of this bird (or one related to it) a couple years ago, and couldn't identify it until today when I captured this one. This photo was take at the same place I took the unidentified one a couple years ago.
Some different views of Edinburgh Castle taken last Christmas.

Those first two are stunning - it's amazing what a late afternoon sun can do!
