Well, I know I'm about 3/4 of an hour late, but if no one minds,
I'm going to add a couple images to Free Sunday before I move
on to Karin's challenge.

I still haven't had time to "work" any of these yet, so they're all SOOC,
but were all captured last week in Colonial Williamsburg, VA.

P9 Thank you Richard was good to read and learn. Also amazing picture

Thanks for the comments, Simon. Gene Smith was a great teacher in his final years, conducting many workshops, TV interviews, seminars, exhibitions, and guest appearances. He taught at Cooper Union in New York during 1968 and 1969. He finally moved to Tuscon, Arizona in 1976 to teach at the University of Arizona and organize his archives for the University's Center for Creative Photography.

p.9 Smith's "country Doctor" was one of the photo-journalist articles we studied for a photo class I took last fall. He definitely was a pioneer in the field.

Lucky you, Pat! I met Gene Smith once in October, 1951, at a LIFE party for young photographers (yes, I was young once). That was the year his "Spanish Village" work was published by LIFE -- 17 photos over ten large pages of the premiere U.S. picture magazine. He shot only in black/white, and made his own prints, demanding that editors stick with his cropping. He was a diffident, shy man who was not happy to be surrounded by young admirers. I had my wife and 18-month-old daughter with me. I found her chatting with Margaret Bourke-White who was admiring our baby, but my wife had no idea who she was.

They could easily have been turnips, Lesley, but over 7" wide
is still pretty big...I think...LOL

Glad you liked the set, Lesley.

Thanks! He's really a cool kid - the shot you liked was taken one Sunday when he came dressed as Doctor Who.

I don't mind how late you are to the challenge Tim, especially when you share photos such as these. I love the carriage photo. I have an 1800's ancestor that was a carriage maker in New York. Good job. Thanks for sharing.

Oh wow, that's cool, Johnna. It always amazes me when I hear of
someone that can trace their ancestry back to the 1700 and 1800s.

I'm really glad you enjoyed the series, and thought you might like a closer look at that carriage.

Wow Tim, thanks for sharing the beautiful carriage photos. I see a family crest on the doors. I would guess that particular crest is the owners crest rather than the makers crest. Very, very cool sir...
