Hi all, I just signed up. Looking for knowledge and wisdom from experienced photographers. I am just starting to get a little more serious about the pictures I take. Am looking for advice about types cameras that will work the best for the pictures I want to take. I like photographing mostly nature and wildlife. I currently have a Cannon sx30IS, it's ok for what I was doing, but I want to upgrade to something better. My budget is about 1500.00, any advise is welcome. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Thanks.

Welcome to uhh. Hands down I would suggest a new RX10 IV from a reputable dealer like B&HPhoto.com or Adorma.com. It will saturate your limit and give you the best bang for your buck while allowing you to shoot your chosen subject matter right now without further research for equipment. Unless you buy used, there's little chance you'll match the capabilities and quality you will get in a RX10 IV. Yes, you can get a nice aps-c camera like a Nikon d7200 but you won't have enough left over to buy a good wildlife lens.

The RX10 IV is a bridge camera, like your SX30, but is the "granddaddy" of all bridge cameras, almost as big as a dslr with a sharp Zeiss lens with a zoom range from 24 to 600mm with a 2x factor called Clear Image Zoom (CIZ) that gives you up to 1200mm of zoom with in-camera software and fills in pixels so you see almost no loss in resolution in most cases. It has an innovative stacked sensor that gives you 20 megapixels to offer up high resolution pictures. It would be a fantastic move up for you and might very well provide you with all the camera you will ever need.

You will be very lucky to find a worthwhile wildlife lens for a Canon or Nikon for the price of a RX10 IV. Beyond all that, it will give you a useful and viable camera to use right now if you want to explore other equipment options. I have been at this for close to 50 years now and if I were where you are, the RX10 IV is the camera I would want.
