Cool concept Dave !!! A work in progress, I'm sure there are issues you would want to correct and maybe some additional elements to add, but this is the sort of thing that strikes my interest. Altho, I'm not familiar with Photo-Bashing and it will take some studying on my part to understand the technique, I do think I will investigate more. Thanks for the introduction.
Dave

Must admit I didn’t know the term was so widely used but it is quite appropriate. You do have to want a painterly look to some element, or all, of the composition, which may not be your thing but I hope you find it useful. Thanks for commenting Dave.

Many people do "bashing," "collaging," "mash-ups." What separates yours for me is the fine composition (might help to move the landscape-plus up a bit into the dead corner), and the strong yet subtle unity of shape (bird) with a variety of its appearances. The tone is very helpful, too. Quite enjoyable, and congratulations!

Most impressive (whatever the genre is called).

Thanks Bob. One trick used in fantasy composites to fill blank spaces is to add decorative elements such as line swirls and ink spots, or even a mechanical feature. I avoided the temptation as it’s not quite the style I wanted, but doing nothing has left those awkward corners top right and bottom left. Moving the castle to the right might help the top right, but that bottom left is a problem unless something gets added. I’m thinking on it.

This is amazing and truly fantastic work! Naturally, i would love to see your "pieces" to this puzzle, mainly so i can marvel even more at the way you wove them together!

This genre fascinates me... never tried it myself and am not confident I'd be very good at it... but, have long admired the artistry and imagination often displayed in movie posters and such. To me, it takes multiple levels of talent to cobble up a well balanced, eye-pleasing, color compatible, coherent and interesting image and certainly not for the lazy.

I thought it applied well to some of the technique I've tried in this composite. It's taken me a while to get back into this sort of thing, having got into the doldrums for a while. Thankfully Linda inadvertently reminding me I had started a course on photo-artistry and I'm back on track - although please feel free to disagree! For those interested in this sort of thing, please critique as you see fit. I feel there are several issues with composition and technique, but its probably as far as I will take this actual piece. Meanwhile, my thanks to Linda for the kick-start. I should add that all elements bar the silhouetted birds are my own.

I have dabbled with composites. But nothing to the extent or ability you have shown in this image. I find it a fun exercise and really enjoy doing them. Maybe some day my final product will compete with yours. If you haven’t figured it out yet I like it.

I agree with the idea that it could (should) be a book cover - very nicely done!

melueth, luminous, NJFrank, and IreneAC - please accept my apologies for not responding to your posts in this thread! I got tied-up in my next project and didn't sort through my mail box - for some reason my computer puts UHH mail anywhere but the inbox.
I do appreciate your responses, many thanks for taking the time to leave them for me. For Marylea, these are some of the elements used: Feel free to play with them should you wish (in which case I will send you the bird's head image!).

You just furthered my awe with the way you wove these pieces together. It's something i dream of doing someday (hopefully sooner than later!). Not only artistically done, but with great technical skill. Just wow!

You can find all sorts of tutorials on the net ML - Phlearn.com offer a range of both free and buy, and if you get serious with a fantasy slant Sebastian Michaels is your man, but you have to pay for his courses. Hope you have some fun - don’t give up at the first hurdle, little by little and you’ll really start enjoying yourself. Good Luck,
Dave

This is just grand. I know the struggle of corners. There is always a spot in any of my composites where I run out of either space or content, or they overlap in an awkward way. Your corner doesn’t bother me. I have barely dabbled in the fantasy scenes but I do like this one. I’m glad you found your way to Sebastian’s instruction, it suits your work.

I really like it. I'm with R.G. on this one. My compositing abilities or creativity will probably never rise to this level of competence. I don't think I would change a thing.
