I use it and I love it. For many years I used photoshop and Lightroom. Don't miss them a bit. You can find loads of their tutorials on youtube, as well as checking their info pages, and downloading the manual for the latest version.

I am an amateur hoping to become good enough to be able to call myself an enthusiast as some point. LR/PS intimidated me as I started, so after much research, I started with ON1. I do like it. Since then, I have learned a bit of LR in local photography courses, and, so far, it seems like there is nothing that LR can do that ON1 cant. That probably does not continue if one was to look at PS, but that is not where I am at the moment.

One advantage I found in ON1 is that your don’t have to create nor maintain the LR catalog system. You put the photos into a folder however you want, delete them or move them however you want, and it will deal with it. I use the full non-destructive import feature, and it creates its two sidecar files beside every raw photo imported, so if I move them, I just have to move the set. I like this feature of ON1 better than LR as I think it is harder to mess it up accidentally.

If you do create a full folder-tree structure (X:photos main folder and sub folders on down from there), the keyword and smart album functions are just as good, if not better, than LR.

That said, don’t be fooled into thinking of this as a one-time purchase. I think they will do a major upgrade once per year for a while, and this upgrade will not be free (2018 to 2019 was not), so you will still spend 50-80 per year on “upgrades”

Matt Kloskowski Does a nice webinar on comparing features vs LR.

Good luck

The odds are that if you aren't reasonably proficient with PSCC you will be the same with On1, Luminar, Capture One, DxO or any other application. All apps take work. PSCC just happens to have more bells and whistles than many other programs. That's why other programs shake hands with PSCC.

Hoping some of you might give your advice/opinions on ON1....I currently use LR/PS ($10 per mo), however, mostly LR, as I am not very proficient in PS. ON1 has caught my eye (looks very user friendly) and they have a promo through tomorrow.

Curious to hear what you all think.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for your detailed response/info! I went ahead and purchased and will jump in as soon as things quiet a bit after the holidays. Yes, I assumed that there would be more $$ for each update.... ha! Thanks again!

Thank you for the feedback! Yes....I hear you re proficiency...it takes time and work to get there. I am fairly proficient in LR, but not so much in PS. I will continue with both of these, and hopefully, also use ON1. Looking forward to trying it out. Just purchased. Happy New Year!

Thank you for your reply! I just purchased and look forward to trying it! I will keep LR & PS at this point.....can re-evaluate down the road. I have watched a few of the tutorials for ON1 and they seem to be very good so far. Thanks again.

One more thought. There is a specific workflow/tutorial for migrating from LR to ON1. I am pretty sure it is working on gathering those sidecar files in the LR catalog and distributing them out. So, if you ever want to fully convert, you can

Yes- I saw the tutorial & will be interested in viewing it. Good to know there may be another ‘option’ down the line, if we were to think about going to just one system. Thank you!

I have dropped my subscription to LR/PS and now use ON1 exclusively. I also got rid of Photomatix, Topaz, NIK software and others, as ON1 does everything for me.
