Coyote, legs are too short, and the body not heavy/rugged for a wolf

I would say coyote because of narrow head. Living in AZ, we saw coyotes all the time and only an occasional Mexican wolf that is very similar but larger.

coyote. Wolves are big. However over the past years there are sights of the "new" version of a mix of both animals. Can't remember the name but google it to see images etc.

Thanks everyone. I have seen many wolfs in Northern Minnesota but they were a long way off. They don't stay on the road when they see or hear you coming and they were a darker color.

To george retired:
Coywolf. I was actually stalked by one when on a walk...called the sheriff's office and they said they were delighted to know where it had gone...they'd been tracking it. Coyote have moved to the Eastern mountains & the coywolf is gaining ground.

Why doesn't a reply line up with the comment one is replying to? Awfully confusing.....

I'm in mid Canada (Manitoba). We have a pack of wolves down in forest/lake country. Little experience with them other than they seem to say out of your way, providing you are not doing something stupid like trying to advance to feed them. Normally they will just take off but usually you don't see them. The lone wolf is a different story. they are on their own, perhaps push out for a pack or lost their position in the pack and have to fend for them selves...food, shelter and protection. Always looking for food, so small "pets" should be kept inside and most of all young children IF there is any sighting. Wild animals don't know the difference in domestic pets and little humans. As a hobby photographer, there can be some great shots, but use the appropriate long lens, walk away when it's uncomfortable. Up in Canada, small arms are prohibited and you must be licensed to carry a long gun. In addition most of these wild animals are protected from hunters.
