They believe in the bucket-brigade system of delivery. One person takes and passes to the next person until the item is delivered.

Communism was in force long before claimed by the Soviets. In USA, the Amish are a good example.

Some places do that and others just charge the actual shipping costs.

While I have never tried communism, I have seen it first hand and it's not pretty.

I have a question about shipping charges on used camera gear.I just purchased a used Nikon lens & was charged $11.25 for shipping from Adorama. I live in Ohio.I don’t remember being charged shipping before. The Nikon lens was over $800.00,I would think that would warrant free shipping,am I wrong? I was told because it was used I would be charged shipping because it wouln’t Be fair to the seller!

Mariyng, why not call Adorama and discuss it with them? Perhaps the customer service representative will help you out. A second call can not hurt.

$11.25 are going to let that keep you from buying a quality lens? What are you saving over a new lens?.

I know you've been schooled by many people here on shipping and I will be no different. Whatever you buy, from any place, even the grocery store down the street from you, shipping/transportation costs are there for you to pay in the final amount. These costs are ALWAYS there for consumers to pay and, quite frankly, if a business advertises "free shipping," it's an advertising ploy to get you to keep buying from them so that THEY get reimbursed for those costs. As others have said, nothing is free, the consumer will always pay for shipping in the final analysis. And shipping costs are primarily from the weight, size, and distance of a particular item--that's just the way every business determines what it will charge for shipping. But then there are formulas that can be used to come up with an average shipping cost and, well....it gets really complicated. Just be glad your lens cost only $11.25 to ship....it would have cost you FAR more to drive there and get it yourself at the store. Shipping is a convenience to you and all of us.

If the price was over $1,000, and the weight was under 1 ounce, shipping, if you live within 2 miles of the store, is reduced to only $200.

It was less than 1.4% of the cost for something you wanted...…. hardly worth mentioning. Shipping is never really free, it is in the total cost even if not stated. If it was a $108.00 lens, $11 would seem like a lot (something you do see with private sellers on Ebay) but it wouldn't be a deal breaker if I wanted the item. Excessive shipping costs can be used to guarantee more profit for a low cost item, or it could be to cover driving 20 miles both ways to ship something...

It’s my understanding that the law recently changed so they are now required to charge shipping for purchases over state lines.

When you go to your local camera store if it still exists, because we all go to the out of state stores that don't charge tax or shipping. They won't charge you shipping if you pick it up. Try buying on line from Hon Kong and they won't charge sipping or tax, good luck

Best Buy offers free shipping, and usually has the same price as B&H or Adorama. In fact, they had a D850 for me when everyone else was back-ordered for months. Used items are another issue entirely.

$11.25 to ship an $800 item sounds pretty good. Remember if it is not a high volume or standard item it requires extra effort (read personal handling). Packaging materials and transportation charges are small compared to labor cost.

Are you sure that you are not confused with required sales taxe?
