The only way to go for action shots when using continuous focus.

For action shots using continuous focus I use the shutter button the camera came with. I use the back button for single spot focus in the event the bird is in a tree with branches. Using the button on the top front of the camera for action is the only way to go.

Just out of curiosity, do many of you use back button focus, and if so, what do you liked or dislike about the feature?

I've been using it for a good 20 years and I would never go back doing it any other way. I really like that the focus stays put, that gives one a lot of lee way and a head start when shooting any action! It frees you of having to think about focus at all, so one can concentrate on other things!
