I don't know if this has been posted before but here it is anyway. I have a Sony A6300, and when I download photos to my computer, the file name for the card, on the desktop screen is "No Name." I've been unable to figure out how to change that to say, "Sony A6300." Has anyone else with this issue figured out how to change it? Even if it's to the Sony proprietary "DSC..." that would be fine. Anything to identify it as Sony and not just "No Name." I have lots of those small icons on the desktop screen and it just blends in with the others when I plug the SD card in. Thanks.
Right click on the card on your desktop. You will see 'rename', click it. It should then highlight the no name and you can name it.

But the next time I plug in the card to load photos, it will just say "No Name" again. I'm wondering if there's a way in-camera to change the card designation or if I'm just stuck with what Sony provided.
Try putting it in your computer and doing a format from Explorer. It gives you an option to name the card. Then format it again in the camera. I'm not sure, but I think the name will stick.
The name is contained in the EXIF of the image. I would suggest seeing if the name is there. If it isn't then you can blame Sony.
On a Mac it's easy to highlight, delete and rename the card. Have no idea what it takes for Wintel computers.

I can change the name while the card is in the computer's card slot, but when I eject it, take more photos, then insert it into the computer the next time, it will say "No Name" again. It would be nice if the card name could be permanently changed to identify the camera it came out of.
It the name in the card's data were to be permanently changed to, say, A6300, then if I were to use it in a different camera, that might be confusing, but if there were a way to identify the card from the camera it was being used in, that could make it readily identifiable. For example, if I use the card in my Canon G16, when I insert it in the computer's card slot, it identifies that camera specifically. It would be nice if, when using the card in the Sony it would identify that specific camera and not something so generic like "No Name." But if there's nothing one can do about it, I can live with that. It's just a convenience thing is all. I'm probably just splitting hairs anyway, but I thought I'd ask.

Odd.
I rename my cards on the computer and the name is permanent. There is a limit on the number of characters you can use.
WEH-01
WEH-02
etc.
You're not hitting "esc" instead of enter are you? ESC will cancel the rename.
Any chance your Sony renames the card? My Sony H1 does not.

I don't know. I'll have to play with it some. I went into the menus and found nothing that would change the name from "No Name" to something else. I'll try giving the card a name on the computer and make sure I only use it with the A6300 and see how that works.

In Windows Explorer, try going to the drive menu on the left, select the storage device, right click, select "rename", rename it. See if that works.

Well, it's the thought that counts, anyway. So thanks.

So I snapped an image and loaded it on my computer, then changed the name of the on-screen icon from "No Name to "Sony A6300." I then ejected the card, deleted the image and took another one. I then loaded it onto the computer, but when I inserted the SD card the title "No Name" showed up again. (Head scratch.) I'm beginning to suspect that the issue is in the camera's software or firmware, and only an update from Sony will change that. Seems lame that Sony would market a nice camera like this and give it the name "No Name." Go figure. Oh well. Even Gary Friedman didn't have an answer for this one.
