The black and white has a nice level of sophistication and subtlety. The color picture is quite garish. I would say stick with the black and white.

Thanks for taking a look and commenting. It is rather garish isn't it.

I usually pick black & white for some photo's but the color of the blue water and the green grass looks too good to pass up.

Thanks Ched, glad you liked it.

I like the B&W version better. You might look at a B&W that does not have a brownish or sepia tone--that may look even better. The color is too vibrant and harsh to my taste.

Both, but the monotone seems to emphasize the layers more. Beautiful shot, Bmac.

Hi, Bmac,

I am partial to your monochrome version... it’s emphasis on well-handled tonality is what grabs me.
To my eye a crucial compositional component is that solitary tree that just barely,,,but noticeably...breaks the horizon. It ties together - but also emphasizes - the delineation of earthly and sky tones.

Really well done!

Dave

Appreciate your detailed critique Dave. Thanks.

A subjective question. Ok. I like b/w treatment of landscapes, so my nod goes to your second one. Nice composition in the landscape!

Thanks for opining Hiker.

I too like black and white (monochrome). I convert many of my seashore pictures to them and print both the color and BW versions. I always end up framing the BW ones.
I like your B&W version. The color one is too garish, as another poster mentioned, for my taste.

How do you like this edit? Reduced vibrance and saturation....cut down on the blue cast.

I like them both but prefer the color version. Great composition!

The black and white looks a lot like Sepia. Which I like the older look. A bit more contrast I would think and darker on rest.

I generally prefer color over B/W. However, this photo has the foreground all in shade and the background in full sun and I think the difference in white balance between the two is making it look a bit odd overall. Get the foreground right and the background is off, get the background right and the foreground is off, and choosing something in the middle is probably going to look odd as well. Could probably be fixed easily using layers to color balance each then combine. I think the color is a bit oversaturated as well, but many folks like really vivid colors and it's your choice. Good luck and good shooting to all.

Color best. It drew me in while the sepia just sort of faded like a long forgotten dream.
