when i sell an item...i usually sell it cheap enough that the buyer isn't worried about the original box. i have sold 5 or 6 lenses on this forum....no original boxes...but all that purchased were very happy with my "excellent" condition description.
i noticed the other day that i do have the original boxes for my 24-70mm2.8 L canon and the one for the sigma 70-200mm2.8 OS.
i do have a "dreaded" closet in my computer room that i rarely go in to. might be surprised what is in there if i ever get the guts to enter.
Did you ever see a four year old open a gift at Christmas that had to much tape on it? Enough said.

I am currently undergoing the chore of cleaning out my closet. A task for only the stout of heart. Since I started buying my Nikon d90 and lenses, bags, flashes, etc. I've accumilated a good amt of boxes which I've tossed up into the nether relms of said closet. How many of you keep the boxes your camera equipment comes in? Why?
I always keep the boxes that my equipment comes in. If you never intend to sell any of your equipment, by all means, toss the boxes. But if you think that you will ever offer any of your items for sell they will fetch a better price if you can advertise "in the original box". I keep all of the wrappings inside the box.
I keep them so that every so often I can ask: Why am I keeping these boxes?
I too keep all camera boxes but it's a bigger issue. I keep the boxes for stereo equipment, video equipment and certain collector car parts. My attic and basement are full of pristine boxes including a bof for a crankshaft that went into an engine in a car I sold 5 years ago... But it's a very cool black glossy box!
As long as I have the gear, I keep the boxes.
Toss them just after opening. I used to save everything after moving this last time - no more.

hahahahahaha
i keep some boxes for awhile.....then i throw them out. the more junk i get rid of...the less my wife or kids will have to clean out when i bite the big one.
My kids already say I'm boarder line hoarding. I tell them it's because I just don't have any where to put my stuff. :D

I keep the boxes. I don't know why. I really don't know why I keep the old manuals for cameras and flashes I don't own anymore.

Often times I will ship gear in advance of shoots, and the boxes/packing always protect well, and if you ever sell gear, having the original boxes WITH the plastic/styrofoam/foam packers brings a higher price and protects you in the event of a online sale.
Reduces possible damages for not often used gear. My EF500 lens see my body twice a year, and it doesn't fit on my bags/pelicans, so in the closet it goes safely boxed.
This gives me a headache! I suppose I keep mine in case I get rich, buy new gear, and sell what I have on eBay.

My wife swears that I belong on that show, but I disagree. I save "good stuff," which I eventually "need." Shortly after I throw something away, I find a need for it.
I've seen boxes that were worth more as a collectors item than the original item that was in the box.

That's the way it is with a lot of old vinyl album covers.
