It can write much faster than SD card for burst shooting of fast moving subjects among other things.

I have a d500 & like it for the reach with my 200-500 Nikon lens in my case 10 frames per second is nice to have but the aouto focus is awesome so quality is what I'm about not quantity, still in all it's best to have if ever in need

I've had my D500 for about 6 months now - Was in the same place as you - Shot sports with it for most of that time and wondered when I would be sorry that I didn't have a backup card. Never shot bear like that before. Well, I finally broke down and got a Sony 64GB to go with my 64GB SD card today. It is what `everybody else says - They are FAST, and seem to be built very solid. I'm glad I got it. Look for a sale of different makers during christmas. I think AMAZON has a Sony 64GB XQD card for $134.00. Good luck and happy shooting with your new toy.

I haven’t found a better action camera than the D500 with the xqd card. Would be grateful though if I could find a xqd card reader that can be inserted into the thunder plug of an iPad Pro which I now use for post processing. Does anyone know of one? Thanks

I suggest you start your own new thread with your question as the subject line. You'll get a lot of responses. Asking your question in the middle of another is referred to as hijacking a thread. You can do this, but you usually don't get as much response as you might if you start a new thread.

Recently acquired a d500 and I love it. My question is; other than backup, am I losing anything by not using xqd card? I am not very 'tech savvy'. Never even heard of xqd card until I got this camera. Been using sd card only,as xqd's are quite pricey. Appreciate any help you more experienced and knowledgeable people can give.
Thanks, Len

Yes, speed, which is essential for action shots.
