Headed to the Tampa FL area to see our newest Grandson in February hoping to get time for some nature/landscape shooting in while grandma is fawning over the newborn.Hoping for birds gators etc. Any suggestions from a local would be helpful,
Being to Tampa last month, here's three ideas:
1. Find a sunny afternoon / evening and practice birds-in-flight off either of the two fishing piers on the I-275 Skyway. It was $4 to join the fishermen / women and the sun is at your back in the PM hours. The birds are watching all the humans and fly over or soar above whenever there might be a scrap to gobble.
2. Spend a day at the Tampa Zoo. A lot of amazing animals without bars / windows.
3. Plan an all-day at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, touring the circus history museum, the art museum, the formal gardens and grounds of the complex.

A good spot for nature photography near Tampa is Lettuce Lake Park.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lettuce_Lake_ParkThere are no fees.
Also, the migratory bird season for this area is November to April, so there is a good chance you will see a variety of birds.

They also have a really nice aquarium. And don't forget the Dali museum in St. Pete. It is wonderful.

Ybor City is a fun place to shoot. Very colorful. The Riverwalk also has some good spots for photos.

We travel to St. Pete each winter to visit with family. I always plan at least one day at Sawgrass Park.

All good suggestions. Also go to Lowry Park Zoo. To the west of Tampa (in Pinellas County) is a wonderful Greek community called Tarpon Springs....sponge/fishing boats, gift shops, incredible Greek food.
