Since becoming an active shooter, I support my local camera store Roberts,

I buy thing at BB, never been charged for a return, they give me 30 days, to try it..

Only bought one camera there, they exchanged it under warranty, several months later at a differet store, had some CF bent pins a few years later, exchanged the plug myself.

BB will match prices..

Retired from the electronic business,

We have two Best Buys in Anchorage. One has a pretty limited stock of cameras and supplies, while the other has a very good display. I have bought a couple cameras from Best Buy, although I have also found that it is a good idea to go there armed with some knowledge gained beforehand, as a lot of the employees there have limited knowledge themselves. Their job is to sell cameras (if that's the department they're working in at the time you come in) and they may or may not know much, but whatever camera you may be interested in is "a good one, takes great pictures." On the upside, Best Buy does do price matching, so if you find a camera or lens less expensive elsewhere, they will match that price.

The have all kinds of weasel outs on matching prices. It has to be a certain kind of retailer. They won't even match a price on Amazon.

Best Buy has specific sites called Camera Experience stores. They are usually staffed with clerks that know something about photography and have a large inventory on display. My metro area has many BB store and two of them are branded Experience.

I have had excellent experiences buying from Best Buy. The restocking fee is to discourage people from using it as a testing ground. Just make sure you know what you want. They have an excellent return policy for defective products.

I was one of the pro shooters hired to help Best Buys set up larger dedicated camera sections in various stores across the country a few years back. Yes each region has a few Best Buys with full camera stores inside, staffed by trained folks. They can be an option, just be aware of their return policies. You can always do your research and hands on there and still buy from one of the big three, B&H, Adorama, Amazon which all have excellent return policies. Cheers

You may want to check out Showcase Photo at 2323 Cheshire Bridge Road in ATL. They carry a lot of inventory and let me try out some lenses on my camera.

I haven't been back to Best Buy since I went in, waited forever for a salesperson, finally flagged one down, told him what I was looking for. He pointed to the area whete the ?flip? video cameras were, then disappeared. I left and went elsewhere, first registering my complaint at the service desk. Now, that was 10 years ago, so maybe I should try them again, but, no.

Hey, I just found out recently that the reason BestBuy is now charging a 15% restocking fee is because these bums are coming in the Store and purchasing high end Camera’s to shoot Weddings or take on Vacation, then returning them within the 15 or 30 days for a refund! This is Sad and it hurts the honest and good people! I was told they caught these people up in this sleazy mess!! They checked the Cameras and hundreds to several thousand pictures were taken by them!! It Costs BestBuy!

It's good to find someplace you can look at what your wanting in order to compare brands. But get the information then always buy from a professional camera dealer ether on line or brick and mortar. The pros know what they are talking about and because they want you to be happy. I bought the best tripod they had from Best Buy and it wouldn't keep the camera from drifting with the 18-55 kit lens on it. ( I can only imagine trying to use the 150-600 ) I took it back to the same store with all the receipts and in the undamaged box. The person at the service desk said that this tripod would hold anything I put on it and they would not return it. I even asked for a store credit in order to get my wife a fitbit and was told no way. I for one will never buy anything from Best Buy, especially a camera that in many cases I only have one chance to get the picture I want.

Did you return the lens to B&H? If not then what's your point. Would you be less happy with the lens if you bought it at Best Buy?!
There is a reason why the company is forced to have a restocking fee policy, which by the way doesn't apply in all 50 US states. There are a lot of less than honest people out there and one of the scams stores like Best Buy were subject to was, they were being used as a free rental service. Someone would "buy" a camera or lens, use it for whatever reason, then return it within the return window for a full refund. The restocking fee policy pretty much eliminates that practice. Plus, once a product has been used and returned, it can no longer be sold as new. You may believe you outsmarted Best Buy by purchasing the lens elsewhere but truth is, if you didn't buy it, someone else did.
Personally, Best Buy is one of my favorite places to shop for certain photo gear. I live in Pennsylvania, about 20 minutes from Delaware. I shop at the Best Buy in north Delaware all the time because Delaware has no sales tax.
By the way, do you know B&H has a very similar return policy as Best Buy; probably not...

B&H does not use restocking fee. Pretty sure Adorama and Cameta do not either. You do have to pay shipping.

I discovered that Best Buy...specifically the one near the Mall of Georgia, NE of Atlanta..has a very large selection of cameras on display to handle.

I had been looking at adding a smaller camera for travel....reading reviews...watching YouTube videos. I pretty much ruled out all the cameras I handled.

I also handled most of the DSLR’s I could have an interest in....and decided I didn’t want to hike 5 miles with a full frame camera.

With camera stores being almost as hard to find as phone booths, I thought someone might find this information helpful. I would think that some Best Buy stores in other areas would have similar displays. And yes, I would consider buying from Best Buy, when and if I decide on a new camera.

When there are several Best Buy stores in a metro are, Best Buy frequently designates one of them to be the main photography outlet. That store has a larger inventory of many more cameras, lenses and accessories. If the store you are at does not have what you are looking for then ask one of the employees near the photo section which store is the designated photo store.
