I have been looking into this as well... I have not tried it yet but found this...

I will try to set this up after my trip to South Dakota if you want to wait till I test it out.

the xti does not have live view on the camera. but is there any software that i can install on my laptop for live view? i'm disabled and can not get very low to the ground (well i can but getting back up would be the problem lol) and i would like to use my comp screen as a live view. then i could use a mono pod to hold my camera low and see whats going on, before i take a shot.
Thanks for any help..

I'm pretty sure you need live view on the camera.
I can do live view with my 50D (which has live view but not an articulating screen) but not with the 30D (which doesn't have live view)
Since you may have to invest in a new camera to do what you want - get one with the articulated screen -- you'll be much happier with it.
