I’ve been to Scotland twice. Once by myself. The second time with my niece. Both times I rented a car and drove all over. When I was in Edinburgh, there was no need for a car. There is a tour company out of Edinburgh called “the Hairy Coo”. They have a website and might be worth looking into.

I’m going to Scotland to visit realiatives in Brora, Aberdeen & Edinburgh not chosen a date yet.
I am female traveling alone with no car, I bus or train it.
I’ve always wanted to do a photo tour there up in the north.
Are there any operators that you’ve used that won’t break the bank.
I’m looking for a 3-7 day trip.
Or do you have any suggestions on areas to do myself.
Thanks

I spent a month in Aberdeen one day. Ditch it for any other place. No offence to the Chamber of Commerce. It's just not a touristy town.

Thanks for bringing up the subject Mama Bear since now I have changed my plans for visiting Scotland, I'm now including a couple of days in the Orkney's. From other posts here, seems its a must see place. Sure hope you have a great time, find a great guide and have an enjoyable trip. Some travel magazines have rated Scotland as one of the best photo places in the world...If you're up to it, don't be afraid to rent a car for a day or so, it'll give you the freedom to go to many other local places, especially up to the Cairngorms NP. After about 15 minutes, driving is not difficult over there, just follow the car in front of you... ...Cheers.

While in the Navy I was stationed at the US Sub Base "Holy Loch" in Dunoon in the 70's. Thanks to Clinton, it was marked for Base closure. I didn't travel as much as I would of liked but made it to Inverness and several smaller towns. I stayed in B&B's at that time. Traveled on a 10 day Brit-Rail pass. Years later, a Scottish friend took me to the "The Borders" south of Edinburgh. There are several old Abbeys in the area. Also, at the Melrose Abbey in the ground lays the heart of "Robert the Bruce." There is small monument at the site. NF is showing the movie "Outlaw King" about Robert The Bruce and his efforts to gain Scotlands Indepenence. Learn about "The Black Douglas, James Douglas" and his role as RtB's commander during their battles. Beautiful country, friendly people and great Whiskey. If you are a history buff, this is the place to be. Check out the old churches with their on site grave yards. Couple days ago there was a UHH reader wanting to learn how to photo headstones and their markings. Enjoy your trip. Look forward to seeing your photo travel log.

Just to be clear, it was not BRAC, not Bill Clinton....BRAC was commissioned by DOD and started out as the Efficient Facilities Initiative in 2001. Holy Loch was closed in 1991 because of the end of the Cold War, not because of BRAC or Bill Clinton....cheers

We took a cruise in July, primarily in Norway, but we had a day each in the Shetland and Orkney Islands and Edinburgh. The Shetland and Orkney Islands were amazing; go there if you can.

Check out Hairy Coo tours. I’ve rented a car the times I’ve been in Scotland, but I’ve heard a lot of nice things about Hairy Coo
