I’m going to Scotland to visit realiatives in Brora, Aberdeen & Edinburgh not chosen a date yet.
I am female traveling alone with no car, I bus or train it.
I’ve always wanted to do a photo tour there up in the north.
Are there any operators that you’ve used that won’t break the bank.
I’m looking for a 3-7 day trip.
Or do you have any suggestions on areas to do myself.

Scotland’s one place i’d love to visit again.
Three days was not enough when we picked my daughter up from a semester in Edinburgh. We rode the bus to get around, along with walking a lot. Great food!! Dirleton outside of Edinburgh has the Open Arms Hotel. Lovely place to stay and dine. Try the Balmoral Chicken.

Thanks. Last time we were there 2 days in Edinburgh. No realatives there but we took a trip out to the Isle of May for the Puffins. I might just do that again. Leaving hubby at home, he’s not a photog so he wouldn’t get running around the country side.

I would google Edinburgh and Aberdeen Tourism as to what is there. Getting around by bus will not be a problem. Look up Sutherland Tourism for Brora (nice harbour). The Highland buses run regularly as do the trains. (check out Wikipedia for Brora). You are on a Jurassic coastline so a)keep an eye out for fossils b) don't stand too close to the edge of cliffs (They crumble) but will be a wildlife haven for sea birds. The further north you go - the less populated...so check travel times BOTH ways. Have fun

Ours was a family trip, not a photography expedition, but I managed to get some keepers. Hit Holland and France on the same trip. Luckily, we have friends in both countries. Good luck!

I have used Viator on several continents for tours and airport pick-ups. I have never been disappointed. Their website lists several 3- and 5-day tours out of Edinburgh that look pretty good - not specifically for photographer, though.

Been to Scotland twice, first time 5 weeks, this past summer 6 weeks. Highlands is where it is at for me. Didn’t spend 15 minutes in Edinburg. Car rentals are quite reasonable, do get an SUV. Head north, can’t go wrong. Drive the coast, as far as time allows. Best tour guide, and we bought 5, was the 100 best birding sites in the Scottish Highlands, wonderful. Take long johns and an umbrella, and have a magical time.

Planning a round robin trip by car next spring and my nephew told me to spend at least two days at the Isle of Sky, its on the west coast and not sure if that's in your itinerary.....other than that haven't been there in 40+ years. Before you go check out "tours by locals"in Edinburgh..one of their guide name is Will.cannot remember his last name but he was a photographer for lonely planet in Japan.a native of Edinburgh.great walking tours but also will drive you anywhere..when you see the website, type in the city of choice and their guides will pop up by name and the tours they give..very reasonable. if time and budget allow try to see the orkney islands..short flight from a few cities or a ferry ride from few cities..orkneys are very primal, lots of historic sites, churches,monolithic sites, etc etc..they also have tours by locals to show you the entire island so you can concentrate on photo ops.have been to Scotland three times. cities are wonderful but the scenery is unmatched in my opinion..glenco,isle of Skye, so many places..I would seek info from R.G. When people talk about touring Scotland, few mention Orkney. Before my first trip there I asked a friend who had spent a year in Scotland to recommend some places to visit. His first three recommendations were Orkney, Orkney, Orkney. It is a magical place with lots of history both recent and ancient, evocative stone circles, and a highlight mentioned by none of the guidebooks: a police department in Kirkwall that kindly took back the parking ticket we got when my wife explained that we were stupid Americans who didn't know how to decipher the No Parking markings.
