I would suggest you buy a different frame and mat. What you are trying to use will make for a very narrow and weird looking framed image.

Buy standard sizes.... to avoid the high cost of having them custom made.

Aaron Brothers, Michael's and many other places have standard mats and frames.

For example, a 16x20" frame and mat would make for a much nicer presentation of your image.

The opening in a standard 16x20" mat is 10.5x13.5", to accommodate a standard size 11x14" print (with 1/4" overlap on all four sides).

You might expect to pay $35 to $50 for standard, ready made wooden frame and pre-cut mat in those sizes at Aarons. To have custom made would probably triple that cost. In your case, you appear to already have a long, narrow frame and would only need to get the mat cut... but I bet that will cost around $50, just for the mat.

Your image in the 7x16" size you propose using would look like the first example below. (The crop you set up in your followup would show the white, unprinted areas top and bottom through the window of a custom cut 7x16" mat opening).

If you instead printed it 11x14" and used off-the-shelf, ready made mat and frame, the image would look like the second example below.

But, if it were my image, I'd print it as shown in the #3 example... horizontal orientation. This makes for less enlargement and loss of image quality. It also makes the image feel less crowded and allows room to position the subject slightly off-center, which I think makes for a better composition. I'd also would boost the contrast and saturation a bit, as shown, along with applying some selective sharpening (tree and eagle only, leaving the background blurred).

But, of course, it's your image and you can do what you want with it.

I would suggest you buy a different frame and mat.... (show quote)

Thanks for taking the time to explain and process this image differently. The frame was made by my grandpa .... and yes it is odd sized. Maybe I just need to pick a different picture to place in it.

If the image will work for you in a 7x16 format, do it.
It's your image!
