If I remember correctly, the red stake indicates a hazard

No, I did not take these shots with an iPhone. 200-500mm kept my distance. Advice to golfers in Florida, when looking for your ball along the edge of lake, don't always look straight down. Not paying attention, one golfer got within 3 feet of this big boy.

When I lived in Florida, a friend came down to visit, brought their dog, wanted to take the dog for a walk down to the lake.
I said you really don't want to do that.
They said why?
I told them that dog was gator's favorite food...

I think Gators secretly want to play golf. Or at least eat the balls. You have the right idea. Give them plenty of space.

Best guess is 8.5-9ft. And they're faster than you think.

Last year a golfer got grabbed by a big gator as he walked by the water (they can lunge from the water!). He escaped only because he had the presence of mind to shove his putter in the gator's eye!

think of all the nice hand bags beauty would yield !!! Fried gator meat, anyone ? Have no idea what it tastes like. And NO - probably not like chicken.
