Such a shame Kathy, we are losing lots of ‘green belt’ in the UK for housing too. Also farmers are selling their land to housing developers. Excellent set, love #1.

Thanks for the pictures. They bring back lots of memories. I can almost smell the cotton! Only those who have been there will know about that distinctive aroma.

The cotton fields that once surrounded me are rapidly falling to the builders. So before these scenes are gone for good, I decided to do some recording. I love the seasons of cotton growing - the leveling, the building of burms, planting, watering up, shouldering, and finally that wonderful, white, fluffy harvest that covers the roads with a layer of fluff.

#1: A field nearly ready to start exfoliating in order to pick the cotton.

#2: Open bolls with flower still on the plant.

#3: Thought those of you who shoot in RAW would appreciate this pun. This is an unopened boll.

Many thanks for some wonderful pictures of a not often photographed subject. My wife's family used to take the kids from school and the whole family pick cotton. The youngest girl sometimes rode on her mothers sack. Some schools let out at cotton picking season in the old (real old) days. To this day my wife thinks cotton harvesters are the best invention ever! Thanks again.

a beautiful cotton field sight...love these shots. i never picked cotton, but i spent 6 weeks one summer when i was a teen
chopping the weeds in my dad's cotton fields...from 6 to noon every day for 6 weeks i chopped thoses weeds to earn enough
money to buy a pair of cowboy boots to wear when i rode my horse. got paid the grand total of 50 cents an hour...lol. they were
white boots and i loved them.

I've done that. It's hard work and with rattlers in the field, dangerous also. I'll bet those boots didn't stay white long. Thanks for dropping by.

I have never seen fields of cotton. Its a sad thought that they would be sacrificed to builders.

That's how things are here. Everything falls to the builders here. Thanks for commenting.

Great set! 60 years since I have seen that.

Thanks, Mike. You don't have cotton in Utah, do you?

Nice capture and sure brings back memories of my travels following the Mississippi River and the the field of snow in the Summer time. ;-)

Yep, they can look like snow when all the green is gone.

Nice scenes of cotton fields. There is still plenty of cotton in West Texas.

I've never been through there to see cotton growing. I'm glad there's still plenty around.
