The cotton fields that once surrounded me are rapidly falling to the builders. So before these scenes are gone for good, I decided to do some recording. I love the seasons of cotton growing - the leveling, the building of burms, planting, watering up, shouldering, and finally that wonderful, white, fluffy harvest that covers the roads with a layer of fluff.
#1: A field nearly ready to start exfoliating in order to pick the cotton.
#2: Open bolls with flower still on the plant.
#3: Thought those of you who shoot in RAW would appreciate this pun. This is an unopened boll.
The fields are white unto harvest.

The bolls have opened, but the plant still flowers.

A new sight for me.
Thanks, Karin. I thought it might be interesting to those who live in the northern tier of states where cotton doesn't grow.
Puns work when you don't have to explain them. Glad you got it!
I love everything about cotton except picking it by hand.
You've captured cotton farming beautifully, Kathy! Brilliant shots..and I love your pun!
Very enjoyable series. The extensive dof offered by the sx50 at wide angles really served you well in #1. That is one huge field!

Yes, picking by hand is not fun. In fact, it hurts! There are no gloves strong enough. Thanks so much for your comments.

Actually, Linda, this is one of the smallest fields around. Sorry. And yes, the DOF of the SX50 is wonderful. I'm always surprised when I shoot at f8 and get it all! My 5D certainly doesn't do that! Most of the fields here are quarter sections. I think this one is about 1/2 or 1/4 of that.
