Landscape photography is a really big and popular slice of the photography errr... landscape, and yet there does not seem to be a UHH forum dedicated to this form. Does anyone know why? It is not my area but I know a lot of UHH members focus on this discipline.

Has this been considered in the past? I would certainly subscribe, though I am not sufficiently skilled to suggest monitoring such a forum.

What are the thought of the Landscape Photographers here?

I'd like to see a landscape forum here, as well.

Some of you may have missed the "Birds in Flight / Birds in the water" section at https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-112-1.html

My first reaction was along the lines of what jaymatt wrote, and Linda (as usual) brought up good points, too. But since landscape is both my main interest and forms the majority of what I shoot, I'll bite: what would be required to start up a Landscape (sub-)Forum here on UHH, and what would be required of the moderator(s) of such a forum?

Send a pm to ADMIN offering to be the moderator and he will create the section and give you the moderator controls.

As a moderator, you have the ability to delete topics or just delete responses to topics, as well as to block users from the section entirely. Yeah, things do get that bad occasionally.

You will probably want to review the guidelines of other sections and compose a welcome + overview of the section's purpose, including things like whether critique is encouraged and whether the section will attempt to be a teaching forum, or will it be more Gallery-like. Or all-inclusive.

Click on "all sections" at bottom of this page and look for the bold-print stickied topics on some of the home pages.

Otherwise, it is up to you as to how involved you want to be with the day to day activities (e.g. comment in every topic like the two Close-up moderators do).

You could reach out to some of the other active section moderators for more info:
R.G. or ebrunner (For Your Consideration)
Jay Pat (Trains)
Dixiegirl or Dook (Close-up)
E.L.. Shapiro (3 sections: Wedding, Commercial, Pro Portraits)
Nikonian72 (True macro)

I would subscribe for sure, but I also want a black and white section

The drawback to the specialty forums is in getting their existence known to others. After a certain number have signed up, some topics will appear in the digest but only if you have subscribed to that section (and are viewing the digest while logged in). People who have initial interest may get discouraged by the small numbers of comments they receive compared to Gallery and go back to posting solely there. Brand new users often have no idea there are 30+ sub-forums on UHH!
I would subscribe for sure, but I also want a blac... (show quote)

I agree wholeheartedly. There is very little activity in most of the sub forums. I subscribe to nearly all of them.

It is also slightly annoying to see so many pictures posted for comment in the Main Photography Discussion forum, simply because there is so little feedback in the photo section.

Main Photo Discussion should be reserved solely for those “Nikon vs. Canon - Which is better?” And “Sixteen ways you’re ruining your photos” pearls. If it doesn’t include the words “Read it before they make me take it down...”, it’s just not click-worthy. 😜

Good morning: Yes, landscape photography presents a field of photography unto itself. One could even sub-divide this field, with one division as national parks and suchlike preserves. Continents could offer another division. Or it all could lump together as one distinctive field.

I recall the site administrator presented the field of nudity (or something like it) a few years ago as a specialized forum here. One could argue that by the numbers, more photographers do landscapes than do nudity. Maybe the time has come for a forum dedicated to landscape photography?

I, for one, would welcome this. Landscape is a big subject, with lots of thought and opinions within it, promoting interest, learning and healthy discussion, and, of course, pictures. It would save having to wade through a gallery displaying types of picture which may not always be what we are looking for. (e.g. birds for birders).

Sounds good to me. If this site is dedicated to photography and related avenues...why is there a need or want for the Attic section.

Since I specialize in Landscape and Wildlife (not just birds) I'd welcome a landscape forum and would subscribe. I'd love to see some good landscape work posted. If it happens let me know.
