I am wondering if there are any sources for good, used lenses. I really would love to be able to afford an f2.8 or even f1.8 prime lens or modest zoom 28-175 or so. Is there such a source?? thanks

Canon has an 85mm 1.8 refurbished lens for $239.99. Comes with a 1 year.warranty and is in stock. Many many people here on UHH buy refurbs including me. Google Canon refurbished lens and get it before it's gone.

Are you buying Canon or Nikon? Gotta find out who the lens was originally ordered from to verify it is USA and not grey market.

I had purchased a 7dm2 and after 1 week the auto focus system broke sent into canon and they would repair but not under warranty because it was grey market. So canon will still work on grey market.

I have recently added Nikon to my gear bag but according to the Nikon rep they will not look at much less work on grey market Nikon items.

If you are buying another brand it would be worth a call to their support line to find out their policies.

The moral of my story is do you dudilligents before you purchase it will pay off so you don’t end up with an expensive paperweight.

Be aware of how many models exist, not every model is nice and every camera body acting different to different lenses. Just Compare the 50 mm https://kenrockwell.com/canon/comparisons/50mm-lenses.htm

I am not sure what you mean and which lens you are referring to in your reply when you say: "That focal length on a crop sensor body like your's will give you an 35mm equivalent angle of view of 136mm". Could you help me on that point????? My basic knowledge is lacking!! Thank you for helping me out one this point. Maybe I should not be looking for a prime lens but rather a lens that would offer me more flexibility.

I bought a used lens from Adorama that was defective. Adorama replaced it. KEH and B&H are good too.

The first place I go to is Canon's refurbished lens site:
https://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/lenses-flashes/refurbished-lenses

Canon refurbished gear has a few advantages over some other refurbished products. They give the same warranty on refurbished as on new. The price is way better. Refurbished gear has been thoroughly inspected to assure that it meets specs. Not all new lenses are as thoroughly inspected as refurbished gear. New gear is usually subjected to casual checks and occasional spot checks. The odds that a refurbished lens has been thoroughly checked are much higher than new gear.

In addition to B&H and Adorama, from where most of the members here order there are other very reliable and respected sources and Roberts Camera is one of them. They offer a 6 months warranty on used lenses. Cameta from time to time has refurb lenses at very attractive prices.
Perhaps the lens you are looking for is being sold in the buy and sell forum here.
