Thank you again.. what you explained makes perfect sense.. and truth be told, I have been looking at the Canon 100-400 I as well :-)

The EF 100-400L or the EF 100-400L II?
I Had the original but I sold it to help pay for the version II. Many people didn't or don't like the original since it is a push pull lens. I personally have zero problem with the push pull lenses; my favorite lens is the EF 28-300L which is a push pull. Version II Is a total redesign and one heck of a lens. If you are looking at the original EF 100-400, it is an excellent lens and will kick the 70-300's but. Also, it is larger than the EF 70-300L.

I also have a Canon 5d mark IV. When I went Yellowstone to photograph wildlife., I also took a Canon 7d markII with a Tamron 150-600mm G2 lens. This combination gave me 10 frames per second and a resolution factor of 1.6 so my 600mm will be 960mm lens! I came back with a variety of wild animals from Grizzly bears to Elk during rut sesson. Good luck on your trip to Africa. It is on my bucket list.

Sounds fabulous, but I tried using the Tamron 150-600II, and found it too heavy for me to hand hold and carry.. I will be bringing a tripod, but I will be limited in when I can use it. I’m sure you were able to get great shots!

I m going on a 3 week trip to Southern Africa this spring, and am planning to rent a back up camera ( I currently shoot with a Canon 5DM4, and was thinking of an 80D for more range with a long lens when on Safari). I was wondering which company have you used, and how satisfied are you with that company? Thanks for any imput.

I have used both BorrowLenses and Lens Rental. I usually use BorrowLenses but will use Lens Rental if what I want is to carried or not in stock.
