When I did crime scene etc., I used a Honeywell, and Sunpak 611, both with battery paks. I now have a Bolt VX-710N unit with a Bolt (12) AA battery pak and a Panasonic ring light, they both work great with my Nikon D200' and a D5000. Since I don't use it everyday they feel my needs very nicely. As with any peice of equipment you have to first determine what you are going to use it for, where and when you're using it and consider the cost factor. If I was using a flash everyday I would go with the Nikon 5000 unit.

I want to thank you all for your interest and advice. Reading all the responses left me very confused and made me realize how little I really know about modern flashes. I'm going to take a couple of days to do more learning. I'll come back to let you know what I come up with.

Thanks again folks.

Hi folks,
I'm back. I did a lot of reading and watching I'm my spare time the last couple of days. Special thank to GoofyNewfie for extra personal help.
After all was said and done I ordered the Gordox Ving V860IIN 2.4 and a trigger receiver.
I'm not planning on using it every day and I had a limited budget for GAS right now. The reviews are good, personal recommendations and lower mid price for a flash. This allowed me to get a few other things at the same time. For $300 I got the flash, a flash soft case, trigger, diffuser, spare Nikon battery for my camera and a new sling bag for running around.
I feel good about it and want to thank everyone who provided kind input and knowledge. At sixty something it was a little humbling to realize how little I knew about the new technology and it's use. Still have a lot to learn but I enjoy learning. Thanks again.
