My First Posting, - After reading Posts about printers over the past couple of months, I have to ask if there is a way to 'Revive' an EPSON printer that has 'sat' between print jobs and now does not print with all colors. - This is my THIRD ONE! -
The First, was inherited from my artist Sister, so was destined for failure due to lack of use while she was sick
.
The Second one, I paid Full Price ($600.00), and I let it sit for too long between printing, & the same result!

The Third, is an Epson Stylus R-2000, (another$600.00), is also not wanting to print the Blue Ink after sitting for a couple of months.

So, - Does anyone know of a solution for #3 before it's too late? - Epson told me that it would be too costly to repair the Second one, hence, - #3!
I believe I could have spent all that money on HAVING photos printed at Costco or some reputable outfit, and been WAY ahead!

I use COSTCO or other printers so I do not have to deal with those issues as I only print rarely.Welcome to the forum.

Thanks, that was exactly what I was afraid of, but it makes total sense if not printing regularly!

Since they are sitting for months, have someone else do the printing.

If Costco will do the work for free and without requiring you to buy a $60-$120 membership, then go for it!
Otherwise, you might want to learn how to maintain your printer.

It's an inkjet printer. Inkjet catridges plug if they sit too long. Sometimes it's possible to unplug them.
At worse, your going to have to replace int ink cartridge.

If you have the User's Guide, turn to "Troubleshooting" on p. 91, otherwise follow this link:
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/301503/Epson-Stylus-Photo-R2000.html?page=91#manual

Instructions for determining if the print heads are clogged are on p. 79. Instructions for head cleaning
are on page 80.

Epson is a top printer manufacturer. All inkjet printers have this problem if you let them sit for a long time.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Costco used Epson commercial printers.

Here are two things that might help prevent this problem from re-occuring:
* Whenver you're not using the printer, be sure to turn it off.
* If you're not going to use the printer for a while, sometims removing the inkjet catridge and storing it
insidea an air-tight container will help prevent clogs.

BTW, have you made similar posts like this on other boards? Do you happen to be a Costco employee
or contractor? Just curious.

The print head itself can still dry out (and clog) with the ink that remains in it. Any ink in the print head where the cartridge mates is then exposed to the air and will dry out also.
Best to print something once every week or two.

If the print head is cheap enough you could replace it.
The commercial printers, at least the Canon ones, go through a nozzle cleaning cycle all by themselves while they sleep, as long as they’re plugged in.
Of course all are way over a thousand dollars but looks like you’ve spent that much already!!! And they print for WAY cheaper and better but of course cost a lot more!!!
Maybe stay with the cheap little rebate throw-aways! Good luck

Not terribly unusual for neglected Epson print heads to clog to the point of requiring replacement. The catch is the if you watch for sales and frequent rebates you can get a new printer for a few dollars more.

My one suggestion if you do replace it ...READ THE MANUAL!

suggest you look at Jtoolman on youtube - he has a variety of videos on printers and printing - you has a facebook page where you can post question and received answers

I use HP printers in the office and for small jobs and a big Epson (30") in our lab. We avoid aftermarket cartridges or injected refills- some of theses leak or coagulate and mess up the works. By keeping the printers in daily use- we never experience clogging or damaged heads. We had one issue in the past and simply returned the unit to our supplier- it was clean and repaired for a nominal fee. We usually don't discard equipmet unless it is beyond repair, obsolete, or the repair cost would exceed the price of a replacement.

The little HOP Office 6600 on my desk works surprisingly well for a combination unit- it cleans itself quite nicely even after some down time.

I prefer to do my printing in-house- we get better quality and can service our clients faster. I only outsource jobs that require sizes that machined can't accommodate or we need to print on special materials that would be problematic.

That's a very good point. Thanks, Longshadow.

If you can easily remove the print head and have access to an ultrasonic cleaner (used for cleaning jewelry and pens), that can be effective. K&E made a popular one that you can still occasionally find on EBay, and larger ones are available. My personal experience has been that the Canon dye printers like the 9000 and Pro 100 can go for months of non use without clogging, but maybe I’ve just been lucky!

your solution is simple. Don't buy Epson!!!
