Good news has never sold newspapers nor advertising on TV. If they don't have bad news then they distort events to make it sound like bad news.

Just a thought, but . . .
jerryc is the most prolific poster on UHH. With all his posts he is probably running out of things to write about so in order to maintain his status he has to put up something no matter how off-the-wall it may be.
Just on this thread he has increased his count by four - so far. And his thread about being banned on Amazon got him six more.
Not that I'm complaining since I find some of his posts interesting to read.

Can't be too bad since I'm hearing about thousands of people from Central America on their way here to escape the situation in their home countries.

I get the impression that a lot of people here are very much afraid. It's not necessary. Don't be afraid. Think logically.

Pretty vague post Jerry. Afraid of what, firearms, spiders, heights, WHAT?

The fear is caused by politicians drumming up problems that don't actually exist, and reporters and commentators who blow those comments out of proportion. Best to focus on our own friends and family and ignore the phony national dramas.

That is nothing to be afraid of. Politicians have been doing that for year. People with common sense have learned to deal with it.

When did being afraid help any situation?

It helps you to become aware. It helps you to become prepared. It alerts you to be aware. Old saying in Martial Arts - Paranoia is nothing but perfect awareness.

Afraid of snakes -it is justified

Afraid of lions -it is justified

Afraid of sharks -it is justified

Afraid of heights - it is justified

Afraid of .... - it is justified

Huuummmm! Seems to be situations where being afraid is an inborn instinct that helps you in situations to stay alive.

Think logically and carry a gun and a camera.
And that is exactly what is wrong with us at this point. Your first suggestion is carry a gun. For what? To kill someone? That is your first thought? If that is true then you are what's wrong with our society. I carry my camera, and I do not own a gun. And I am 75 years old, served in the military for 12 and 1/2 years, and am quite content to just carry my camera and keep taking pictures.

You are absolutely right. But how many people any more have common sense? Yes, there are some. But there are many on the other side of the fence.

If you remain calm, cool and keep your head while people all around are panicking and losing theirs perhaps you don't fully comprehend the situation.
