Good points, but sometimes I like the drive because I can see so much local color from the country by-roads.

I've been driving through West Virginia and Pennsylvania for the last few days and the fall colors are awesome!

Years ago, I had a full time and part time job with the same company. One of my part time duties was to drive up to NYC once a month on the last business day to pick up asset price data. One year there was a heavy snow storm on that day, but I still had to get the data. This was back before high speed data transmission existed. Sending the data over phone lines was just too slow. Anyway, we usually took the company's Jeep Grand Cherokee, but this trip we decided to take the 4 WD F250, just in case, it had better clearance than the Cherokee. The trip up was pretty non eventful. The PA turnpike to the NJ turnpike was ok, a little slow but ok. When we got to the tunnel into Manhattan, traffic was getting really sparse. The streets in Manhattan were snow covered but passable. By the time we got down to the financial district, the only vehicles on the streets were garbage trucks with plows, police and our F250. That was one of the few times we had no problem finding a place to park.
We checked in at the data vendor and headed to our favorite close by restaurant, Mama Leone's, but it was closed due to weather. Bummer. They had great italian food there.
With our restaurant closed and time to kill, we got back in the truck and went sight seeing. There was no traffic at all, really, really weird.
We picked up the tapes on time, made it back to PA on time and had a unique adventure to boot.
Sometimes driving in NYC can be fun.

Car rental companies sell insurance for the period of your rental.
