I just watched the Sox win the world series and noticed (not just tonight, but any game I watch) that ALL of the cameras used are Canon. National Geographic also.

On the other hand whenever I see pictures taken in outer space the cameras are always Nikon. Just an observation. Red Sox-Yankees. Chevy-Ford. Canon-Nikon.

The Yankees will get ‘em next year, Chevy (Ford = Found On Road Dead), and Nikon/Canon.

There are 12 Hasselblads on the moon, the astronauts brought back the loaded film packs and left the cameras so they could bring back an extra total of 25 kg of mineral samples. If I remember right those cameras were customized to be operated with spacesuit gloves on. Customized Hasselblads, I wonder what they cost then and in today's dollars?

The reason that you see so many Nikon images from outer space is that NASA purchased 50 Nikon camera some time ago.

One of the reasons Nikon is more popular with NASA is, many Canon L series lenses use synthetic flourite glass which was thought to be vulnerable to fracturing from the heavy vibrations experienced during liftoff, a gamble NASA is not willing to take. NASA does use some Canon gear on the ground.

As for all the cameras at the world series being Canon, how can you tell? Yes, there were many big white lenses but Sony has a few white telephoto lenses also. The two easiest ways to tell them apart if you can't read the name on the camera is, of course, the crimson band on all Canon L lenses and the shade of white. Canon white lenses are actually different shades of very light grey while Sony white lenses are white.

None of our Fords ever broke, they have been great cars, especially our current 2017 Fusion Hybrid SE. 51-60mpg around town, very smooth and solid, classy looking shiny black.

Canon spends a LOT of money on their marketing. Nikon spends a REAL LOT on their technology.

Nikon also had some light grey lenses, including 300 and 400 2.8's.

The whole line of pro lenses - from 24-70 to 600mm F4 was made in light grey. I have a grey 600 myself.

I think I would be reluctant to part with them!

I saw a 300 on Craigs List last year.
