I also have several other Fuji lenses as you do and agree that the 55-200 is the ideal travel lens. I once compared it to my much more expensive Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 and found it to be as sharp at f/8 thru f/11. It's also bullet proof, as I once accidentally dropped it 3-feet onto a hardwood floor and was amazed that it was not damaged and continues to produce sharp images. Along with the 18-55, I think it's an amazing bargain.

I have this Fuji lens and find it to be a great lightweight variable aperture zoom! Sharp and quick to focus! I’ve been pleased with both the colors and contrast. I have several other Fuji lenses now (16-55, 50-140, 100-400, 16), but started with the 18-55 and the 55-200 as a lightweight travel system. I find no problems with this lens, just the obvious differences in, for instance, what a 2.8 constant aperture lens can do that this lens can’t and a slight difference in sharpness that isn’t material in most instances. However, I am not using video, so my comments relate only to the quality of the lens. I can’t help on possible video settings issues, etc. All the best!

I often shoot mine at f/8 or above, too, and find it to be very sharp, but it’s pretty good even wide open. I have yet to try a Fuji lens that isn’t plenty sharp. I might like the effects I can get with the 2.8 lenses and the 100-400, but sharpness is not the issue. I’ve also found the color renderings to be pretty consistent, but I’ve only used the XF lenses so can’t speak to the XC lenses.

I have had this lens for several days and I'm not sure about it. I know that it takes some time to get use to a new lens so I definitely will give it more time before I decide to keep or not.

The images I have gotten from this lens are mostly overexposed and undersaturated compared to my other Fuji lenses. Not sure why this would be but it's still early yet.

The video is especially over exposed. Which is odd since the video seems to be pretty much on auto everything once it's set in the menus.
Hope that statement doesn't highlight my ignorance re Fuji video - maybe I need to go back into settings.... or maybe someone can point out video setting that work well for them.

Lens is sharp enough.

Sun touch, I have this lens as well. I think it is good value, a bit slow, focus is quick enough, decent at 150mm, sharp enough and a typical “do-all” zoom at the price-point. In fairness, there are better options in the Fuji line-up and maybe it’s really, you get what you pay for perhaps. It never stays on my XT3 for long. That spot is reserved for the 23mm F1.4, 56mm F1.2 and my 80mm F2.8... Cheers!

So why am I underwhelmed with this lens?

I actually like the images better from the 50-230 mm lens. Too bad it has a plastic mount and is such a slow lens.

Point of this post? Maybe someone will give me some helpful hints or feedback from their experience with this lens.

Interesting post; I too have this lens; I first tried it on my Fuji X-Pro 1, and was distinctly unimpressed . However, I had the firmware upgraded on this lens by Fuji, when I bought the X-Pro 2. What a difference ! It performs now the way I expected it to! I have found that you need to upgrade your lenses as well as your bodies to get the best results. I was all for selling the 55-200 before I had upgraded. I would add that the upgrade was done for free, and a cup of coffee thrown in ! Can't beat that for service. Hope this helps a little.

Update- I checked and the lens is updated to the newest software.
I went into menus and made a few changes that seemed to help a bit. Images aren't so vanilla blah.
I learned by trial and error that focus has to be on continuous and focus needs to be set to wide to get best video. Otherwise the continuous auto focus is not all that effective.
The lens seems to be sharp enough.
I still need to go through the Utube video that was suggested.

Thank you for describing your adventures with this lens - I would like to hear how you are doing with it or if you decide to give it up. One thing about the Fuji I’m learning is that it is technically complicated (at least for me) but when you get your settings right, it’s like “WOW”!
