I have had this lens for several days and I'm not sure about it. I know that it takes some time to get use to a new lens so I definitely will give it more time before I decide to keep or not.

The images I have gotten from this lens are mostly overexposed and undersaturated compared to my other Fuji lenses. Not sure why this would be but it's still early yet.

The video is especially over exposed. Which is odd since the video seems to be pretty much on auto everything once it's set in the menus.
Hope that statement doesn't highlight my ignorance re Fuji video - maybe I need to go back into settings.... or maybe someone can point out video setting that work well for them.

Lens is sharp enough.

Focus is fast enough.

So why am I underwhelmed with this lens?

I actually like the images better from the 50-230 mm lens. Too bad it has a plastic mount and is such a slow lens.

Point of this post? Maybe someone will give me some helpful hints or feedback from their experience with this lens.

You are not the only one to not like this lens a whole lot. Google user reviews on it.
I was going to buy it, but changed my mind after reading a lot of reviews on it.

I have this lens and I love it. I do not do video so can’t help you there. Have you looked at the film simulation settings? I have been using Velvia lately and it is borderline saturated to my eye. But I am a rank amateur and not overly critical.

I've used this lens for years on professional jobs (magazine assignments) and have been extremely happy with it. By chance do you have the slide switch set for "A" instead of the icon for aperture ring? That would adversely affect exposure if you're shooting in Aperture priority mode.

Also see what this video speaks about the current mirrorless cameras and their lenses.

I have been looking for quite a while at this lens and when I rented it, I was having problems with it as well. Now after looking at the pics this lens can take and talking to a few Fuji people, I realized that #1 my Fuji needed to be updated and #2 there are settings "in-camera" that work with this lens better. I have seen unbelievable pics taken with this lens and so I am sure it is my inexperience. For your problem I'm not sure what it is...let me know what you find out!

I also have seen the images that this lens can produce- that adds to my perplexity and disappointment. I just updated my Fuji camera but I still need to check if this lens is updated as well. I did go back in the camera and made some changes in the image quality module- which will only affect the jpegs of course. Thanks.

Really like this lens. Focus fast and accurate, images very sharp, OIS works great. Make sure you have the latest firmware on both camera and lens.

I recently bought the Fuji 55-200. I was happy with the IQ, however the copy I received had a bad case of 'zoom creep'. It would move almost an inch when I had the camera pointing downward on a shoulder strap or tripod. The camera dealer told me in their experience zoom creep is somewhat common on the 55-200, which seems consistent with what I read on Fuji forums afterward. May not be an issue for everyone, however I was not willing to live with it, so I returned the lens.

I have this Fuji lens and find it to be a great lightweight variable aperture zoom! Sharp and quick to focus! I’ve been pleased with both the colors and contrast. I have several other Fuji lenses now (16-55, 50-140, 100-400, 16), but started with the 18-55 and the 55-200 as a lightweight travel system. I find no problems with this lens, just the obvious differences in, for instance, what a 2.8 constant aperture lens can do that this lens can’t and a slight difference in sharpness that isn’t material in most instances. However, I am not using video, so my comments relate only to the quality of the lens. I can’t help on possible video settings issues, etc. All the best!
