I currently shoot a Canon 5D Mk II with 154,000 clicks. It is working fine. The only thing I don’t like about it is the 9 point focusing system. I would like to buy another new or newer updated camera and will probably keep my current camera as a back up.

Glass is not an issue as My wife shoots Nikon with fx glass. Also I want to stay with a full size format sensor unless someone can talk me out of it! I’ve done a fair amount of research. Budget is $1600. I have it narrowed down to the following based on current prices:

Canon 6D $995
Canon 6D MK II $1599
Nikon D750 $1396
5D MK III $1550 used 8500 clicks

Please let me know what your opinions are and thanks in advance for your guidance

The D750 is a great low light camera and is, in my opinion, the best Nikon camera out of the box(meaning it takes great images at any level of experience) No, I am not going to expound on this camera (cause you can read the great reviews on your own) but, I will tell you, currently Nikon is throwing in a free vertical grip ($400.00 FREE GIFT) Plus B&H is throwing in a memory card and camera bag. Hot dog, black friday in October. But hurry, this deal ends tomorrow. Make us all happy and scoop this up, NOW.

Since you are familiar with Canon and their Menu system, you should probably stick with that. However, I love my D750.

Why let someone else choose your camera? Do your research, go to a camera store . Get the feel of different cameras and ask questions . Decide on what YOU like then check with KEH or Adorama and buy one in excellent t plus condition.

If I were in your shoes, the used 5D3 would be my choice. That assumes you have a stable of EF lenses ready to fit it.

Increase your budget a little and look at new Canon R. If you keep camera say 10 years, that is only about $70 per year additional for a camera of the future.

I would make up my own mind and be done with it. This is your decision based on your research. Someone suggests the Nikon and 4 months later you need a $400.00 repair. What then???

I understand. That’s why I’m looking at both new and used. Thanks

I don't see what you're trying to do. Your wife has a stable of Nikon lenses, but you fail to mention your Canon lens collection. If you go down the Nikon path your Canon lenses will be useible until the 5D Mark II dies, which could happen at any time. In your position, I'd go for the newest technology I could buy. The 6 D Mark II, or the 5D Mark III. Or, look for a used 5D Mark IV. Good luck.

My first reaction was the MK III. But the cameras you list have different advantages depending on what you like to shoot. Are you a doing landscapes mostly or people or street? Something else?

thanks Jerry. I shoot both Nikon and Canon so the menu system won't be a big issue.

I will choose my camera for sure. I just wanted opinions of people that use these cameras. Ive already used and handled all the cameras listed except for a D810 that was suggested in this thread. One of the things I'm struggling with is a new D750 vs a used 5D3. Camera decisions which is one place to compare rates the D750 at 90 and a 5D3 at 80. Additionally, most of my Nikon and Canon glass is consumer grade except for my Canon EF 100-400 L version 1

I've been shooting with the 5D M III for 6 years, with the M II as my back-up and that has worked fine for me. I would go with the M III (you'll be happy with it). You be right at home with it, since you're already shooting with the M II, so everything be the same, including your lenses, good luck!

I am a Canon shooter. But in a multi faith household, sometimes it is better if you both gravitate to one belief. Aside from spiritual harmony, you would be able to accumulate a larger glass collection that you can both use. So one of you needs to convert. You may need to find a Monk (Canon), Priest, Minister or Rabbi (I am not sure what they call them at Nikon Shops of Worship) to assist in the conversion process.
