There is a synagogue there with a Metal Tree and each leaf has a name for each of the Jews that were killed during WWII. Really a sad reminder of the past!
I’ve never seen that memorial. Thank you for posting.
That's a very moving memorial. A very utilitarian question: How do they keep the shoes from deteriorating?

We recently spent 4 days in Budapest. Budapest is a beautiful city. I hope you had time to explore it. Thanks for posting your photo. It took me back there again.
It's two cities. One city, Budda is on one side of the river. The second, Pest, is on the opposite side of the river.

On the Pest side of the Danube is a memorial to about 2000 Jewish Hungarians. They were murdered between December 1944 and January 1945. The shoes represent the point where they were shot and the bodies thrown in the Danube.
Very moving and very sad. Nicely photographed.

What we do to fellow beings.....saddens me.We never learn,to make it worse....
Thanks for bringing this memorial to our attention with your pictures. Sad, indeed, but mankind needs the occasional reminder of the horror some are capable of inflicting upon others.
I and thought I had read so much about WWII! A true atrocity, especially by countrymen to countrymen. The saving of bullets is almost too grotesque to consider. Another case of man's inhumanity to man! Sad, Sad, Sad! Thanks for sharing these images and for the other postings that explained them. I may not sleep well tonight.
A simple memorial that evokes contemplation, reflection, and discussion. It is so much better than statues of heroic figures with guns and flags.

Throughout the world and history, there are those of whom nothing was left to remember. So, monuments as seen above are just a small reminder of what has been done by one human being to another. The worst part of this is that we know that it will continue to happen again and again.. We have to listen to our fellow human beings , to strive to lessen the probabilities that it will happen again. There can easily be a river bank nearby that should rightfully have a similar monument. Even in the USA.
Hopefully these memorials will result in fewer such incidents.
Just been there during the summer it gives me horrible memories great reminder never to happen again
So incredibly sad. I did not know about the memorial nor the story behind it. It never ceases to amaze me- man's capacity for evil.

Very Heavy. Lest we forget, do not repeat. The Germans would make the people do the deed or die. Russians Japanese also. Not a good time in human history. Nice remembrance of what not to do. My grandfather is 96 and still alive. Patton's third army. Met my refuge grandmother in Belgium in '44. My wife is Latvian and I've been to Europe twice. God Bless America. AND, All the people who also want to be free from tyranny of any kind on this world we all have to live on. Thank you....
Thank you. A sad story like this deserves to be remembered.
