Its a great, small camera. I have the 6500, basically the same as the 6300 but with IBIS. The sigma adapter gives you excellent autofocus with Canon lenses with these two cameras and there is a lot of high quality older Canon glass on the market, or if you have a Canon it effectively gives you a second body. I have a 5D4, but for travel the Sony is my first choice. Highly recommend Gary Friedman’s books on any Sony, not for beginners perhaps but have a wealth of information- Sony cameras are great, Sony camera manuals not so much.

Battery life is greatly affected by the Airplane Mode setting. Here are the results of my battery life tests for the Sony batt and Promaster batt. The data were collected with camera 'turned off.' Notice the 'stair step' pattern with the Sony and 'smooth' pattern with the Promaster.

I keep Airplane Mode ON. I have 2 batteries, and that has always been enough. I do not do much video, however.

Check with Sam's Club they sell Sony 6000 at nicely discounted price for the bundle of 2 lenses.
I got mine for $440 brand new.

If interested in BIF or Sports the Sony RX10 M4 has the best autofocus system available! It uses the same focusing system as in the Sony a9 a $4000.00 camera!

Hi. I am going to buy the Sony a6300 soon. Anyone have this? How do u like it ? I did a lot of research on it and seems to be a good fit for me. Also, wondering is it ok to buy β€œ open box”? I found a reliable place that has a 45 day return if it does not work correctly. Thanks for any help or thoughts!
Deb

After deciding against said SONY 6300, for reasons not to do with your choice at all, I purchased an open Box Canon 77D. Works fine, got a discount and full warranty and I'm happy a year after. The 6300 is a nice camera. Go for it from a reputable retailer. Save a few $$ before somebody else does. It is probably the same camera you and others held in their hand as they were making buying decisions.

I have the A6000 and it is a great camera. I have purchased adapters to adapt my Canon lenses. When I purchased the body, Sony lenses offered then not up to the same quality versus price as compared to the Canon lenses I have used for several years. As they became available I found that their lens were as pricey as the Canon equiv.

Center is good, but the bottom corners look very soft. May be due to shallow DoF at 1.4. I have been eyeing this lens since it was announced, but this shot hasn't fired me up. Is it heavy? Post some more.

Very shallow depth of field at f1.4, that is why corners look soft, they are way out of focus. The bottom shoreline is a few feet away from me, but I am focused 50-60 ft. away at the ducks and boat in the water in the center of the frame. I also own the 85mm f1.4 G-Master lens, and this 24mm f1.4 G-Master looks every bit as sharp at f1.4 as that lens is, also with very shallow depth of field. This was the first shot after getting this lens today. I will post more as I shoot more with it. The lens is very light and nimble, a pleasure to use. Cheers

With my A7RIII and my Sony 24mm f1.4 GM lens. A couple of quick grab shots while out today along my nearby lake in Grapevine, Texas. A fisherman is in the background along the lake bank, but I focused on a leaf hanging from a tree branch swaying in the wind and backlit by the sun. . First the cropped shot and then the full shot showing nice bokeh of the sun reflected off the surface of the lake. .. And a ground level shot of a leaf, showing the nice bokeh at f1.4. Due to the high wind these all were shot at 1/2000 sec, f1.4, ISO 125, 24mm. . More to come. Loving this lens.

The colors are great, but I think you you need to work on handling the very shallow DoF with the close-ups at F1.4. The sharpest focus on the portrait is on the tip of the guys nose. The hairs on his nose are sharp but his eyebrows are getting soft. If you had used Sony's 'eye focus' you would have nailed it. You can program eye focus to the button on the lens if you are going to use it for portraits a lot. The B&W is really nice. Great tonality. I can't find any part of the leaf in sharp focus. You could have used more DoF on that one or maybe its movement.

I have EYE-AF programmed to the focus-stop button, but wasn't able to use it for this quick grab shot. My purpose was not a model shot, but a quick test of the sharpness of this lens at f1.4, and the lens passed the test. I bought this lens for its shallow depth of field so I am aware and quite capable of using it to my advantage. These were just first test shots, while walking my dog. Yes I made them with one hand (no extra hand to hit eye-af, which yes can be programmed to the AEL button for one-handed activation) while holding my eager and pulling new 62 pound dog Oscar at the end of his leash with my other hand. I like my Eye-Af programmed to the lens focus stop button. I love how you wish to school an award-winning pro of over 40 years how and when to use shallow or extended depth of field . LOL

Every semester and every course I have taught depth-of-field to hundreds of my university photography students over the years. I excuse you, you just didn't know the circumstances of my one-handed use here. The camera grabbed face detect, but I had no extra finger or hand to hit Eye-AF. Wasn't worth losing my eager new dog just to get eye-af on a test grab shot, a feature which I have used countless thousands of times on my A6500, A7RII, A7RIII and A7III for my professional and personal work since I switched to Sony mirrorless back in January 2017. Cheers

It is your compression on your screen or your browser's compression. Click on download here, and you will see the leaves in tack-sharp focus with super detail , trust me I have a 4k screen and also have posted these same shots to several worldwide facebook photo groups and have gotten raves for how tack sharp the leaves and all their detail are. There is the expected shallow depth of field as all shots were made at f1.4, but yes there are clearly parts of leaves that are tack sharp. . Sorry if your setup wont let you see it. Cheers
